Subban does not look good in NJ (granted almost no one does). I'm surprised he can't hold down the top PP spot. I think I saw Will Butcher running the point for it last night and that's because Sami Vatanen was out
- RickJames77

I don't really remember watching him for the past few years (Nashville games are past my bed time), but I remember reading an article after the NJ trade where some scouts say the guy can't hockey anymore.

I would have loved him on the Leafs, but boy am I glad we didn't trade for him. That's a contract that is going to get more and more onerous as the years go by.

First game back for Hyman and he plays almost 18 minutes. Depth is a concern

He does seem to have taken a few steps back these few years.
At least thats the impression I get from afar.

The Leafs wanted some heavy salary retention.

NJ traded crap for a good player with a crap contract.

Hey MiB,

What are your views on the way this roster is constructed?

Do you like the new version of the Leafs where they pay 4 players and ask everyone else to play for scraps?
Do you think other players look at those 4 (or maybe 3) as entitled kids?
Do you think the Leafs even need a backup goalie or could we roll Andersen out 82 times?
Do you think there is any need in hockey to actually play defense?
Do you think there is any need to back your team mate up?
Do you think Spezza still has a few years left in him playing at a high level?
Do you know what the point of Petan is?
Do you like Pivot tables?
Do you think the Leafs are "forward thinkers" by trying to do something that hasn't been done just for the sake of it?
Are you looking forward to the Leafs firing Babcock so we can really get to the issue with this team?
Do you laugh at the people that bought in to the media hype?
Do you think the GM understands that PKs are a real thing?
Are you excited to see Paul McFarland work his magic with this group?
Do you ever want to punch Mitch Marner's stupid face?
Do you cringe every time whenever someone says "still early"?

Just a few topics that could be covered next blog.

Morning

Giving up the first goal, is not the issue.. Lately, we've been giving up the first two goals of the game.

It's tough to always be down 2-0 early.

- PatC80

Gonna have to disagree with you, Pattsie.

Screwing around on the interdweebs - the general consensus is that the team that scores first wins 67% of the time.

We need the effort from the beginning of the anthem.

Agreed..

Also, going down 2-0, is not a easy hole to climb out of.

Apparently it's very easy for the Leafs to come back so that they only lose by one goal.

So that's something, I guess.

Didn't PK lose this spot in Nashville too? Josi and Ellis on PP1.
- AdamFrench

Yeah, but at least it wasn't to Will Butcher. I think he had a spot on the second PP because they went 3F2D while he was their on that second unit.

I generally agreed with that statement, but he seems to still have the skill requisite to run a PP. I wonder about his hockey IQ at times. Maybe that doesn't match up with his skills? Idk, I'm not scout.

Edit: I did see him rush the puck up ice a few times last night and those plays looked good. Looked pretty good at getting out of his own zone when he was under some real pressure as well.
