on a scale from 1-10 how much should we panic
- daeth

well the leafs are out of the playoffs group this morning, this should bring some urgency for those who thought it was going to be easy this year. unless they think they can do what St-louis did last year

You were just yelling at clouds saying that LEGO these days causes kids not to be imaginative.

Kids don’t play with LEGO much anymore.

*waits for you to yell at clouds saying that kids should be playing with LEGO*

- Santo_44

Kids go crazy for lego and still play with them....alot.
No yelling needed.

Unless.you step on one.

Meh. So what if he did. There's nothing wrong with asking immigrants to buy and wear poppies to support the vets and families that have vets who died for the freedom they left their country and came here to have.
- aminnes

Or maybe he was pointing at all people who weren't wearing poppies, immigrants and Canadians alike.
Like he said he was.

All kidding aside, never actually built anything
Just left them laying around, cause there were bugs and frogs and snakes and things to catch outside.

- bobbyisno1

You could have built legos homes outside for them, or lego trucks to try and capture the big dinosaurs.

Geez
Lol

There's nothing wrong with asking a person to buy and wear poppies.

When you decide to isolate one group from another for the same behaviour, you're creating a division that shouldn't exist. That's really what the underlying message here is.

There are numerous immigrants who do wear poppies. There are numerous Canadian citizens who don't - of all ethnicities, including Caucasian.

I think he was in the sense that he said Toronto no one wears poppies. But then he went on Tucker Carlson and said smaller cities in Canada everyone wears one while in the big cities no one does. And on Coach's Corner he said people come for the milk and honey - immigrants. Where do the vast majority of immigrants settle? The major cities. I personally think it's fine either way what he said.

I've had my say, and you've had yours, and I get where you're coming from.

Ultimately, whether his rambling intended to settle on a divisive statement or not, it seemed to. He was offered a chance to apologize and make that clear - simply say, "I didn't intend for it to sound like that. We should all be honouring and respecting the sacrifice made by our Veterans and the very least you can do is purchase and wear a poppy."

He chose not to.

Initially I was upset because even if I don't much care for what he says, I respect the foundation that he built and the icon that he was in terms of Canadiana, and I didn't want him to go out like that. Upon reconsideration, though, I've come to accept that he went out on his terms, because he had the choice.

I'm guessing you're white. Most immigrants don't care what he said and aren't so very sensitive. It's virtue signalling white libs that think they need to run to the defence of the immigrant. I would argue that is what is really divisive. Are they so weak and pathetic they need the white lib to fight their battles for them?

And the Canadians that don't wear a poppy are in far greater numbers in the big cities.

I agree with this.
He stood his ground, good on him, it cost him but good on him.
He's kinda old and a few screws could be loose by now.

This about perfectly just sums up everything that's wrong with the world today...

Who are you to tell anyone else, immigrant or not, what they should or shouldn't be doing? Jus mind your own (frank)ing business, and waalaa. There is no problem.

You'd be blown away how many different things this can be applied to...

I am white, and while I used to live in Toronto for years and later Mississauga, now I live in a smaller "village".

It's not my job to fight anyone's battles for them, nor am I. I'm merely noting that if we want to diverse and inclusive, the way to do it is to stop being divisive in our nature.

To your point, though, I would suggest that you look at Twitter, and read many of the immigrant pundits takes on the issue (Sportsnet, The Athletic, etc.). They don't need me fighting for them, they are doing a much better job of articulating the issue than I ever could.

Freedom of speech. It's called exchanging ideas. If a person was to force someone to wear a poppy against their will then that's a different story. But in a free society a person can present an idea and that idea can be debated, rejected, embraced, etc.

It sounds like you get mad when people disagree with the way you think things should be. That fine, but that can never be legislated unless you like Venezuela.

That’s why I’m wearing a bag over my head. To hide my shame.

That and I smelled fries.
