You get called a snowflake and poop like that, but its about time the ones who are sick of the poop stand up and put a stop to it or make your thoughts known instead of just ignoring the bigot or loud mouth. - senstroll
Absolutely. IMO shrugging it off and not saying anything if it's not directly aimed at you is by far softer than slime (TM) than actually speaking out

I have been going back and watching old Cherry clips, because for a long time I was cool with his shtick, until maybe 5 or so years ago maybe longer..the quality of his analysys really nose dive...But after watching the old clips, I think I was fine overlooking a lot of stuff because he wrapped everything in a pro-Canadian blanket.

absolutely... pro-Canadian and inclusive for sure.
for me personally, I think he began to lose it after/during the last strike/lockout time period (2013?)...
and has been (again for me) very incoherent at times recently.
I made a conscious choice to not watch CoachesCorner I believe during the 2018 playoffs... I was done based on Cherry's ridiculous ramblings about the Bruins and more so by MacLean "suddenly(then) deciding he wasn't going to talk about officiating anymore" ... because quite frankly there was no defense of that garbage.
but I digress.
there's no doubt plenty of examples of Cherry going too far in his commentary over the decades, but we can't equitably judge those things 20-30 years ago by the same interpretation of societal norms now... just as we can't condemn individuals for having a different view of racism or discrimination against women in the 60s than we have now... norms and what's acceptable and isn't have changed
for the same reason, we also have to cautious collectively that we aren't pushing the pendulum to far to fast... eventually it will swing back... normal ebb and flow

I didn’t make a conscious decision - I just lost interest.
I’m not comfortable with firing someone for making a mistake.
I am comfortable with removing Cherry before he further tarnishes his legacy.

I'm not clear hear... are you talking about "being called / labelled a snowflake" - and how that's a problem...
or talking about reacting to a real issue that raised?

Because that was coming. - Atomic Wedgie
definitely a case of the best before date having past...
that's where the networks have to own that they consistently made decision after decision to keep Cherry on the air ... for ratings.
it would great if they had the honest to say that they took him off for that same reason - and not because he offended someone (which he did)... but their decision was monetary for sure... otherwise, why would they bother to ask him apologize?

A bit of both, but the latter is obviously much more important to address.

"soft swede"
The guy would rip on Zaitzev every week...If Zaitzev was Canadian Cherry would of loved the way he played.
