Tough as nails I bin through a lot I tell ya

Let me tell ya

I bin through more than any one of ya’s coulda imagine

well... its true... but I'd prefer it in something approaching English

seriously - the biggest difference between the generations can be summed up by Lego... I'm not joking.

a childs toy in the 60-70s that had blocks, wheels, gears and a blank slate of your imagination of what to assemble - we used our own imagination

fast forward to the 80s-90s... Lego became pre-determined - you will assembled what you have been shown to assemble on the outside of the box - no imagination required

and yes - you can view that as a veiled (or not so veiled) commentary our ability to think for ourselves.

on back to backs... why not start the backup on game one, when the rest of the team is "fresh" and have the almighty Andersen play game two. The better goalie with the tired team instead of vise versa?
- shemspi

nah... just play Andersen every game... until he breaks down.

then play the backup

Cherry is from the silent generation, look how that turned out.
And I still believe when he said "you people" he was talking about people that didn't buy poppies, not what colour they are, cause trust me there are a lot of white Canadians that don't buy them.

- bobbyisno1

"You people that come here … whatever it is, you love our way of life, you love our milk and honey, at least you could pay a couple of bucks for a poppy”

I see this all over my FB page from relatives who are upset about the situation. People want it to be that, but where the did You People come here from? Where were they?

It was directed at immigrants.

If you forgive that because you like Don Cherry, that's fine - it's your prerogative. We've certainly all heard far worse.

Just don't pretend it was something that it wasn't.

I'm a boomer I was born during the last year and I don't like it.
Seems to me Gen-x used to be 61-81.

Strange how things change eh?

New generation=new and different things to learn.

I don’t blame elderly for getting frustrated. They just are in a completely different world and I don’t expect them to fully engage in it.

And you can spin it any way you want to, but if he didn't actually say the words you just don't actually 100% know.

in the end ... it doesn't really matter... DonC's time was up, he had his run - and how many of you people (meaning the media) can say that they lasted 30+ years being the most popular in your business?

he's done... and he was canned for ratings reasons and for money reasons.... DonC gave them a perfect excuse

If Sportsnet was genuinely outraged at his statement(s) they wouldn't have approached him (which we now know they did) for an apology... if they had gotten the apology DonC would have been back on the air again next Saturday. They are a business chasing revenue. HNIC is an institution which we all have different perceptions of - that we don't view as a business.

I just hope that they don't put some flunkey into DonC's old seat and expect to get the same ratings.... they might week 1... but they are going to surely offend or at least not entertain a new generation of fans by doing so.

we'll see... I'm actually looking forward to seeing how MacLean tries to spin this.. or if he just simply says nothing(which is what I expect) cause he wants to hang onto his job.

I haven't watched Cherry for quite awhile, mostly because it's all recycled.
So I'm not gonna miss him, but the way he was put out to pasture irks me.

Mhm I get it.

Your generation did some great things. They also (frank)ed up and did a lot of horrible things.

Like every generation. With the positives come the negatives but we have to adapt(gen Z/mellenials) to survive in our own times.

I’m 29. So a millennial.

An extremely lucky one at that. Can’t say the same for a lot around me.

Yup.

Millennials will get blamed for something.

Gen Z will get blamed for something.

We all do.

But I just see too many people yelling at clouds at the generation under them. They are living in a different world than you did and they have to adapt to it to survive.

hilarious... - I applaud the elderly inference/label.... so I'm going to stop, cry a little , tweet like a motherf___r that I have been offended and labeled.....

wait ... no I'm not.... that's what a flake would do

35 years actually working in tech, not project management, nor webpage design, but actually design, building and deploying stuff... I like to think I understand about "learning new things"... heck I've built a bunch of stuff and prepared it for use for people all across the spectrum, completely tech illiterate folks through some more educated... this once always cracks me up - continuous learning.

A phrase coined by some HR department somewhere in 90's or early 2000's doesn't mean it wasn't happening before.

I'm really beginning to believe that the evolution of the species has reversed itself... probably right around the time that the internet became ubiquitous

I was of the impression that Gen-X starts in 65... this would be great news if it was true...starts in 61... then I wouldn't have to feel do terrible about being one of those awful "elderly" Boomers

Wow right past your head.

I am not saying you don’t learn new things....

Just because you and your buddies learned how to be imaginative through building LEGO doesn’t mean the next generation has to.

Kind of a perfect example of what I am getting at here.
