You’ve been. I’m not sure their salads are actually more healthy. Might be better off with the beef or burger with the works...damn, Now I’m hungry and there isn’t one up here.
- HawkintheD

In reality, a beef isn’t all that bad for you. In moderation anyway. It’s lean meat, bread, and peppers. High in calories, but Compared to a burger dripping with grease, cheese, mayo, ketchup and often times bacon...it really is one of the smarter fast food options. But, you know, that’s just like my opinion man.

I chuckled at the article where Bowman was smugly saying his team has an advantage with analytics, because it seems like everyone is laughing at them, but maybe they really do. Hawks allow a lot of shots, but it seems that they are limiting high danger shots and allowing as many easy ones as the opponent wants to take. Someone mentioned earlier that the Islanders do something similar.

This would obviously cause panic in people that mostly look at stats and don't watch the games. To my eyes, last night the Hawks controlled play for half of the first, most of the second and half of the third. They were consistently dangerous in a way that the Preds weren't.

I remember a couple of years ago when Q was still here and the Hawks had much better possession numbers, but were not winning. A lot of people on here were pointing out that the stats were "lying" because the Hawks had no net front presence and all the shots were from the outside so they were misleading. It seems they learned their lesson and are now doing the opposite.

Chocolate Cake Shake anyone?

Is that as good as it sounds? Always liked Mrs. Portillo’s Chocolate Cake...though I have a feeling there’s someone here who makes a better one.

Versteeg and the IceHogs have mutually agreed to part ways and he's been released from his AHL contract. Interesting... I wonder what this is all about.

No for sure. Have also done a little research and you are correct sir. Was kidding about the burger, but minus the carbs there (they're) salads don’t really appear to be healthy.

There is a food truck up here (closed for the season) that does a good beef sandwich. Matt and Mo’s. Husband and wife I believe from Chicago.

Don't know if you or anyone else was treated to the Perd feed last night, but to listen to their announcers, Lehner was good, the Hawks aren't good and were very lucky, the Preds dominated but weren't getting the bounces, blah blah blah and

Crisp, who I've never really cared for as an announcer, at least summed things up fairly accurately at the end essentially that the Hawks took the game back midway through the first and never looked back.

Lehner gave up a couple goals late but held the fort when the game was on the line.

I just enjoyed how enthusiastic the Perd PA guy was on the second goal announcement even though the piss stains were down by 5 with a minute or two left.

So Game 20 tonight. Won't be able to see the first half (son has a game), so hopefully the Hawks can do well. I want to see full reports tonight. The offense is looking great, shot suppression is a still a concern, but I like the potential of our D. DeHann has actually made Seabrook a serviceable D-man again. Murphy will also help of course. Nylander is a true talent, hope he continues to develop. Kampf and Kubalik have been impressive pretty much all year. Very happy with both those guys.

Credit where it's due. Not sure if he coined it but always see Elbows refer to them as that.

The team seems to be exorcising some demons of late: Vegas, NSH last night. A win over BUF would be great but the Canes even better. That team seems to have given the Hawks fits for the last little while.

Hasn't he been injured for much of the year? I'm guessing his body just can't do it anymore.

Poor guy. Though, I believe he might have a broadcasting gig waiting for him.

Sounds as if it was Versteeg's idea. He approached the team about terminating his contract. Maybe he's had enough and just wants to retire.

As a glass half full guy, I like what I’m seeing. This team is playing good hockey. As a realist I know that this team at this point in time is not a cup contender. This team will have to work their butt off to get in the dance, and I think they will. To be honest, this team needs to score four to five goals a night to win, not sure we can win the 2-1 games on a consistent basis. Just my $0.02
- Angotti

I don't know someone tweeted GA with Murphy in the line up 2, without 4, and Preds only scored 2? Coincidence?

Long before the minutiae of all these stats became an obsession driven by the analytics 'experts on hockey', coaches, scouts, GMs and fans relied on the eye test and instant replay on TV.

Teams won Stanley Cups because they had top notch goaltending (Johnny Bower, Billy Smith, Terry Sawchuk,Bernie Parent) not because they won the stats game night after night. They could check, kill penalties, play physical as necessary and score enough to win. Call me a dinosaur but that's what I see the Hawks trying to evolve into this year.

The SOGs only matter depending on where they originate from, do they have a chance of going in and who is taking them. And the total number of them can be disputed every game every night. A 12 year old student might be the shotkeeper at the UC tonight and his grandmother might be doing it a week from now.

And could I get the definition of a high danger scoring chance from somebody please? If I am standing 10 feet in front of Robin Lehner get the puck and unleash my 33MPH slapshot at him is that a high danger scoring chance?

- RickJ

I agree with a lot of this Rick, i try to be a realist when i watch my team play and all this talk of SOG, so watching the past few games teams are just putting a shot on net from anywhere with no net front traffic, if there is net front traffic the Hawks are doing a great job of taking the stick deflection away and trying to create sight for the goalie, last night the Preds 1st goal was scored on a deflection but off the body not the stick, then the guy tying up the stick stays with the forwards and another player cleans up the rebound. Sure once in a great while someone's going to hit a top corner shot but really the opponents best chances come in flurries when there are rebound chances

What really doesn't help is from what i understand agents are using these fancy stats to negotiate new contracts? So instead of setting up a play you have many players having an ulterior motive and putting shots on net to improve their, (there, they're) corsi score

I was thinking about this last night and from the sounds of it you guys watch more overall hockey then i do.

Who has the best backhand shots in the NHL

Crosby
Kane

I can't really think of any others? I mean back hand shot where you get veered away by dman and have to place a perfect top near side corner shot.

Hawks routed Nashville last night. Chicago's secret weapon is Lehner. Wow he is lights out terrific, nothing against Crawford he certainly has earned his dues and respect but in all fairness Lehner is a huge reason Chicago is able to weather other teams barrage of offense , Chicago's defense certainly is a bit better but still giving up those high danger shots .

I was all in on Chicago before the season started looking at the moves Chicago made and was able to self reflect that I got a bit ahead of my skiis.

None the less if Chicago can continue this winning streak and get themselves ahead of just a wild card spot , maybe Chicago gets in and becomes a dangerous team.

Zach Smith has really stepped up his game and compliments playing with Dach and carpenter.

Nylander is quietly gaining points and becoming a better player.

I'd like to see the toews , saad , Nylander line have more luck go their way and start to become just as dangerous of a line as the Kane, strome, cat trio

hmmm... just recently saw articles about how he was all in with the mentoring and develop mode with the hogs...

maybe he wants another in go in the NHL...or maybe he is tired of the ahl travel schedule...not exactly 5 stars like he used to..

Well I think hockey players will always be hockey players and shoot to score or assist on a goal. I have my doubts they are purposely doing things on the ice to make their Corsi or Fenwick #'s look bettter. Agents, on the other hand will use any positive stat however meaningless to squeeze more money out of a GM.

Interesting rumour (as yet unsubstantiated) put forth by Elliott Friedman last night on HNIC about Tyson Barrie - he and his agent supposedly approaching the Leafs about a trade. He is a UFA after the season and his offensive numbers are so poor compared to previous seasons with Colorado that he is worried about the impact it will have on how much he will be offered on a new contract. It is all the fault of Mike Babcock and his system of course. It has nothing to do with the fact that Barrie plays defence in his own end like an ECHL reject.
