How about Byram and Turcotte, what are their point totals? Seem to recall some of the "experts" from the Athletic and other locales scratching their heads that the Hawks passed on Bowen Orr and Wayne Turcotte.
I kid...they could turn out to be great players but in limited time, Dach has looked really good and I think making many people, FO and fans alike, happy with the 3rd overall pick. - HawkintheD
I only care that Dach becomes an excellent player. If he does, I can stomach one of the others behind him being great.
Kinda like I could handle the passing up of Mahomes if Mitch was also becoming a QB that could take a team to a Super Bowl. |

Exactly! Same thing with the Nylander for Joker trade and Strome for Schmaltz. Don’t care as long as the guy we got is also good and helps the Hawks win. |

When a trade turns out good for both teams, that’s a win. Sure we want Stan to win every trade, but if that scenario happens too often, you will not find many trade partners in the future. |

I remember reading here several years ago about how Stan couldn’t make any big boy trades, had to win every deal and as a result other GM’s were reticent to trade with the Hawks.
I think in that time period, Stan has been one of the most active GM’s in the league and has made a number of the types of deals you mention...depending on who you ask here of course. |

LOL!
That wasn't directed at you at all btw. Didn't realize you were on the Turcotte or Byram train and I was flapping every which way in the breeze with you.
I would have been good with any of them come draft day with the thinking that whoever the scouting group landed on would be a really good player at the #3 pick.
I didn't see much of any of these guys except for YouTube highlight reels, but as the draft approached, there started to be more buzz about the Hawks leaning toward Dach. As it did, I warmed to the idea of them picking a big center and haven't seen anything wrong with the pick. I think they got a good possibly great one. - HawkintheD
When the chance to pick a 6'4" center who shows the inclination to play at both ends of the ice a scouting staff doesn't pass that chance up. They don't come around every year. And a kid like that coming out of Junior ranks doesn't create the potential headache that so many of these overrated 30 game a year NCAA kids do.
Apart from guys like Jack Eichel or Cale Makar or Zach Werenski, not many college boys get drafted in the Top 5 or 6. And that's because college boy hockey typically produces too many Jimmy vesey types.

Agree Schmautz is a better fit for Arizona, Strome is a better fit for the Hawks. Same I would say so far for the Joki, Nylander swap. In both cases Stan actually rolled the dice, trading the more established player for the "disappointment" from the other team.

Tough crowd here, when my kids were young my wife would work with them on English and I would help with the math part, for good reason. So here I am proof reading my posts three times before I submit, I’m sure there are still some grammar issues here and there, maybe I should have my kids proof read for me now. |

It's something I normally DON'T do, I really just wanted to mess with D. Of course, it backfires on me, because I can't read. Joke's on me. I'll sit in my corner now. |

Oh boy Rocky probably has never forgotten the money Stanbo cost him with that signing. |
