Agree with all of this and IMO Colliton probably does too. That's why I wonder why he's allowed Keith to be the #1 PP QB for an extended period when Gus is clearly their best PP QB option.

Is it to see if somehow Keith could reasonably be a playoff PP QB and allow them to move Gus for the best offer whenever that comes?

Edit: IMO Seabs is a better PP QB than Keith. Just a bit scary Seabs being the last line of defense on the blueline.

- Mr Ricochet

Well once upon a time they did have Brad Richards back there at the point.....

Seabrook has a sneaky good shot. IMO, his shot > Keith

I have no idea on why......Keith always seems to be on PP1 and they always seem to have a horse crap power play. They did have some nice movement vs Vegas.

Who knows.....

The Blues sent Jaroslav Halak, Chris Stewart, William Carrier, a 2015 first-round pick and a 2016 third-round pick to the Sabres in return for Ryan Miller and Steve Ott at the 2014 TTDL.

I don't hate Crow, but I think Lehner is the future as I don't see Craw taking less money. Give him a chance to win another cup at the deadline, and then find a good situation in UFA.

If the Hawks are in playoff contention just how much impact on the overall team can a 6th defender who is a liability most of the time on defense have? If he is playing well and they are in contention and they trade him I think they are still in contention with his replacement. You might lose a little on the PP and offensively, but you would pick it back up defensively. The loss/gain this season would be negligible and if you gain a high pick or a highly rated prospect you have to pull the trigger.

Maybe that's why they are giving Keith an extended stay as the PP QB? That was my original question.

Toronto doesn't have a first rounder to give. to me it would have to be a first and a prospect.
- LAHawk

I would try to pry Nylander off of them if possible. Send the Murphy/De Hann/or Maata + gritty forward for Nylander.

They are against the cap, so this frees up some cap space and gets them a much needed player.

Best thing about Keith's 60 MPH shot is he keeps it low and if he ain't confused gets it off quickly with a 2 ft windup with the goalie having little time to get his feet set. If it does get thru much better chance for a redirect/tip and harder for the goalie to track.

Seabs has a boomer, solid instincts too, but IMO shoots the thing too high.

I think Keith is on the PP because JC sees the samething Q did, way to many shorty opportunities given up by Gusto and Bo

Not sneaky. He has a really good shot (when it is accurate) but he is a bit of a liability up top. His turns were never that good and if he has to turn and haul direction back the other way likely isn't catching the PK forward looking for a shorty (even in his prime).

15 seasons as a Hawk.... can't believe its been that long.

19 was good against Vegas. He needs to start finishing his chances. He needs to start producing and raising guys levels around him.....not taking steps backwards because he's not playing with stars.

IMO, that's Toews biggest flaw. He doesn't elevate a lot of guys games on his line.

- SteveRain

I share the same sentiment. I got blasted in one of the boards when i said similar things. “He shines brightest with the stars but sink with the sh1ts”

Ryan Miller in 2014 from Buff to STL
- boilermaker100

Best trade STL ever made for Chicago almost made up for Lou Brock. Miller was terrible in the playoffs against us!

What I have come to notice, through my phone, it's how you enter the commentary section. On the blog page, you can enter from a link at the top "right around the title" or at the bottom "after TC's name." I've had quote problems when using the bottom link under his name.

I hope that made sense & fixes your problem.

Not after he walks the blue line for 10 or 15 seconds. That is a great excuse for any movement to come to a stop. He is a brutal PP QB.

Keith’s problem on the PP is that he hesitates, and by the time he decides to shoot the lane has closed. Don't get me wrong he’s still a good Dman, I just wish he was quicker on his decision making on the power play.

Watched extended highlights of all 6 games of the 2010 SCF last night and several things stood out:

Toews and Kane were virtually invisible games 1-4, and our forward depth was on full display. Kane stepped it up big time for games 5 and 6(per usual)

Sharp and Hossa were beasts.

Bolland in his prime...REALLY miss it.

Ladd was incredible when he returned from injury.

Completely forgot that Carter and M. Richards were on that team. Phillys top 9 was almost as stacked as ours was.

Really wish we got that version of Timonen in 2015. He was great.

Buff was a monster on the PP and had a NASTY hit on Pronger in game 5. Seabs was also out there laying heavyweight blows whenever he had the chance. The Hawks combination of physicality and team speed was something to behold.

Sorry, not liking this move, good offensive talent, but not a 200’ player, and too much cap hit for what he brings. I would hang on to DeHaan at this point, we are lucky to have him, darn Stan really messed that trade up.

For those that want to get rid of Saad, I sure wish we had another one, that is exactly what this team needs, another Saad like player, preferably one that could elevate his shot.

I understand what you mean. Unfortunately, retaining salary and giving draft picks will most likely the cost of moving Seabs’ contract. Unless of course we get a bad contract in return, which would be pointless
- squishy24

You can be sure it is going to be a pillliging a give away to move a bad contract.

A top prospect and a #1 is not unrealistic considering that perhaps only an expansion team is your only suitor. Or risk loosing a very good valuable asset- which could be an experienced dman.

Teams work with and hope eventually a Murphy becomes just this. For the first time in his career he is actually a descent not as mistake prone and we could loose him or DeHahn. Make your list and see what's what. You may decide rather loose one of those dmen than pay exhorbitant price for one more protection spot (Seabrook spot).

If we could trade Crawford plus our #2 for a #1 in a strong draft, then we would have a #1 to trade. Maybe get away with that #1 and a lesser prospect. Hard to gauge exactly what the price could be. Maybe they ask for Entwhistle or Barrett.

The three top picks in the 2019 draft all had slow starts over the first handful of games, but all have settled in a little bit and their scoring picked up.

1. Hughes: 17GP, 4g/5a = 9pts, -7, 16:04TOI
2. Kakko: 16GP, 6g/2a = 8pts, -10, 15:18TOI
3. Dach: 12GP, 3g/3a = 6pts, +2, 10:57TOI

Obviously a small sample size of what will long successful careers for all 3 of them - but Dach is holding his own with the 2 guys that were supposedly far and away above the rest of the players in the draft, not only in talent but in readiness for the NHL ... and he's getting 4 minutes less TOI than the other 2 guys.

I'm not saying Dach will have as good a career as Hughes and Kakko, because unlike our resident clairvoyant seer, I don't have the ability to see into the future - but so far it looks pretty good.

Have the Baaaaahstan @ TOR game queued up for 6:00 puck drop. Figure it will be a good one and if not StanBow's USHL team the Tri City Storm is in Dubuque to tangle with the MN Wild owner's Saints (humming along at a league leading .773 clip but behind the Chicago Steel in the standings) at 7:00 as Plan B. ....... Didn't make the connection until now but I got back channel scoop that StanBow fired his Storm GM and head scout a couple days ago. Hmmmmmmmmmm?

Got off track, sorry. Ceci has not been a very very pleasant surprise paired with Reilly all yr on the 1st pairing? Muzzin is not a highly underrated Dman, a damn good one in my book. It's a surprise to anyone that Barrie is a Gus like player best served as a 3rd rotation PP specialist? He's of use if slotted properly just like Gus (my concern has always been Bovquist would be a Barrie/Gus type).

McDermott has shown use as has USHL kid and Hawk draft pick Justin Holl but yea I agree it ain't perfect by any stretch but cuz of Ceci's play probably a better defense than last yr, no?

TOR made the calculation that they'd spend 95% of their cap dollars on the forwards and goalie and outscore you. Doubt it wins a cup but it is some damn entertaining hockey just like the Hawks are right now.

Kappanen for Matta and Beaudin/Delia/Lankanen? Would they be foolish enough to trade for Gus?

- Mr Ricochet

Kappanen hasn't proven much. He is merely a prospect on a loaded team. Like him yes but would you be able to protect him in Expansion Draft?

Beaudin is possibly a top pair or second pair sound defensively upside. Yes he stick checks a lot. Yes he might get to where he has a physical approach as in picking spots when he uses physical body check instead of the poke check. You should not trade a dman prospect whom figures to be a very smart and skilled defender PLUS good contributor offensively. Overall think: Beaudin is especially adept at reads and understanding how to play defense..

Beside Toronto is not trading for prospect type dmen. They want a veteran or proven commodity. They want to win now with their firepower

Muzzin disappointing this season
Full training camp and he has a better season next go round. My ,2 cents anyway
