Which minute-munching defenseman was available for 3 million?
I am not an Edler fan by any means, but, he is still the teams best defenseman. - Reubenkincade
OK then bring in two 3 mil dmen who can gobble those minutes...Where's Guddy?
lol |
|
|
|
4 teams have less goals against than Canucks |
|
|
|
That is the teams problem, Edler being the best D man still and before a few jump in best overall defencemen. Hughes has some aspects of the game he needs to improve upon still.
Until someone better comes around. This team may not be able to take the next step. - manvanfan
They have some time to find that minute-munching all-situations defenseman, or they may have to go the well-rounded defensive unit route.
Hughes will be fine as a puck moving PP guy, but I doubt he becomes an all-situations player. It isn't like the Canucks didn't need that, now to find a few more well-rounded defensemen. |

This is why I said we may have to bring someone in on a worse contract like Ryan Suter.
Maybe Pittsburgh is open to selling Letang. |
|
|

That would be fine, just don't see who was available for that cost. Anton Stralman cost 5.5 for 3 years, can't think of anyone else who might have fit in, never mind finding 2 of them at 3 million. Lol |

Or, they can be patient and add a piece here and there until this team is ready to be legitimately ready to compete in 3 or 4 years. |

Exactly. You need that dynamic guy. Myers hasn't scored much. Tanev's scoring has dried right up.
Stecher is 3rd at 5 points in 20 games and he plays 14 minutes a night |

Letting's injury status wouldn't be worth it.
Suter would be interesting.
Bottom line is that we aren't going to take that next leap with Sutter-Edler-Tanev in the lineup on a regular basis. |

Sutter may never play again.
Tanev is one blocked shot away from the usual IR status |

We can rush a rebuild, like the Leafs did, and end up in that wonderful situation, or we can take the Colorado route and slowly add some nice young players every year.
My choice is the Colorado way. |

Two years ago fans were calling for Sakic's head. They had to sell off and trade high priced players
They finished in last place 3 years ago and 17 th place the following two years.
They had a cheap owner and after years of blundering it was like someone turned on the switch.
Drafting Nate MacKinnon would help most teams and GMs look good. |

Canucks fans have been calling for Bennings heads for 6 years now, at least Sakic had a young MacKinnon to work with, Benning had 2 very old twin brothers to work with. |

So you are saying Sakic had a much better talent pool to work with, I agree.ππ |

Yes, obviously, Avs were drafting top three while the Canucks were competing for the Cup from 2009-2012. |
