Well we disagree on that. I think there is a clear difference and numerous passes given to players over the course of a number of threads. Not just by you. When you're a player is in a position of leadership. When you're a player with a high paying cap hit contract. When you're a player counted on to be a top player on the team. You don't get any kind of a pass. Those players need to be held to a higher standard. Not a lesser standard. As Vigneault said recently "we need our leaders to be leaders on the ice". Tell me that Giroux played with as much heart and determination last night as Konecny or Lindblom played with?

I actually dont know that we do disagree because for this team to truly be successful the best players need to perform and that isnt happening.

Let me fix my wording then..I expect that by the end of this season Giroux and Coots will be performing to the level they have shown previously.

I am not sure I can say that about Jake, JVR or Hayes.

- opeth_pa

We have an obvious difference of opinion on things so I think I've made my point on that so we need to move on to that. You alluded to this previously but in looking at a number of games the Flyers have won, many of them were really close and could've gone another way. One goal, one save, one shootout goal. They have a good record but it's not by convincing victories. So they have a tough team tonight to play against. The Flyers are struggling to score and they're playing one of the best defensive teams in the league. So how does a team avoid getting into a losing streak? What normally happens with good teams to avoid losing streaks?

Please show me where or how I excused Gostisbehere?

I'm going to enjoy this.

I thought giroux’s pregame interview against Washington was interesting. It went something like this

Commentator “it’s early in the season but you guys have been playing good hockey doing the right things, etc, etc

Giroux “It is early.....blah blah etc.”.

Sooo Is this run of decent play smoke and mirrors or something Claude? Why would your Captain answer like that if you don’t fully believe in the team and what they’ve been able to do? “It is early”.

I hate that response

- Just5

Guessing bc the season just started. Didn’t see the interview but were they referring to making the playoffs already.

voracek and giroux need to step it up
- 2Real

the points aren't there for Giroux yet but overall i don't have issues with his play. Voracek has been bad despite having 13 points. they need more production from JVR and Hayes.

thankfully they have been getting good goaltending and solid enough defense.

Giroux has played okay away from the puck but that's not enough. He is not pushing this team offensively. Other players are. He's not even that good on the PP right now. I'm not sure how anyone can not have issues with his play. Again it's the higher standard that I talk about. The team Captain with the highest cap hit, the team's best player needs to play like it. He's not. He's not a 3rd line center paid to take D zone draws and play well defensively.

It's also a fact that Giroux has been bad this season. That it's early is a BS excuse from him.

You say things like this but have seen you defend ghosts play multiple times. Not wasting my time going Bach through boards. You know it’s true. Now some lame premise or argument will be made or contradiction to past statements.

That's what I expected from you, nothing. The facts are clear. What I did was counter another poster's suggestion that Gostisbehere should sit out a game. My reply to that was not that Gostisbehere was playing great hockey or didn't need to improve but that his play was trending in the right direction. That he was showing clear signs of improving and gaining his confidence back. He was starting to use his puck skills to beat players one on one, cutting pucks and playing more aggressively. That now was the completely wrong time to make that suggestion.

We saw more of that in last nights game. He is working his way back. Coincidentally guess which Flyers defenseman led the team in ice time in last night's game? Interesting isn't it.

You're right about one thing, you wasted your time. You're trying to come at me without the facts and inventing what's not there. I have no issue with you challenging me but have something behind it.

If need be, I'll link to the conversation and we can see exactly what was discussed.

You didn't bring anything to the table. Just a baseless, weak and foolish accusation.

Yea, teams lose games over an 82 game season. It's more important to look at why they lose a particular game. I don't know how anyone can be okay with that effort last night. What it said to me is the all too familiar, we're the Flyers and we don't need our A game tonight to beat this team so we'll just cruise through. Oops! If that is not a pattern for this core of players then I don't know what is.
- MJL

what i said after the 5 points out of 6 stretch is the Ottawa game would tell me more about the team. previous year teams would beat good teams at times then throw out a stinker against an inferior team. I wanted to see the same effort in those 3 games against Ottawa. that's why last night's game annoys me.

A lot of guys need to step their game up but what is up with Hayes. He has been a complete different player from the beginning of the season until the past few games. He went from looking like a dominant force with a lack a scoring touch/luck to where now it almost looks like he is throwing games. I've seen him give up on pucks he could have easily beat the opposition to and he seems to always make questionable plays after holding on and creating space. I went from hating the signing to loving it to now hoping he has a minor injury that will heal up soon. It is Bizarre how much of a difference there has been in his game.

Your last paragraph nails it for me.

Beat a good, though I think over-performing, Islanders team tonight and the loss of last night starts to fade a bit.

Lose again tonight and we now have a three game losing streak and that can snowball quickly.

- opeth_pa

This is really the key. How do they bounce back. The isles are having a great start to the season. We need to get pts off them at home. This team is so unpredictable. I wouldn't be shocked if they played a complete game and won after the epic dud last night vs a team that could very well end up last overall

Both Hayes and Voracek were horrendous last night. Followed closely by Giroux.

Yup. Outside of a few game hiccup with Hart the goaltending has been rock solid. Elliott has been terrific all year. It's really unbelievable the Flyers are currently in a playoff spot without their top players producing big. Coaching matters!

Hayes is on pace for a 30 point season. Not nearly good enough.

There is nothing else. You've got nothing. You have a forum here and an opportunity. Back up your accusation. I'll be waiting.

Prove how I've given Gostisbehere a pass. You claimed I did. The responsibility is yours.

Couturier has an injured shoulder. Who knows the severity of it. If Laughton and Patrick weren't injured Couturier may not even be playing now. IMO Giroux, Voracek, and JVR have to start producing more. They haven't been very good overall.

And Hayes hasn't scored a point in 9 straight games. Unacceptable. If I look at forwards in the NHL making 7+ million how many of them currently have a longer streak than that? Without even looking probably no one.

- PLindbergh31

Yes the honeymoon is over for Hayes. He is a professional hockey player making 7m/yr should be able to adapt to his new team by now. We are almost 1/4 into the season now and not a point in 9 games is just unacceptable.
