He brings leadership, grit, and toughness to the lineup. I really really like the move. A lot.

When Steve Mason had his first child, his play dropped off. I am pretty sure Matt Read had his worst season when he had his first. Claude Giroux had his first this summer.

Caring for a little one will mess anyone up. G is just another in a long line of players whose play has dropped off from being a first time parent. Worry on road trips, sleep deprivation at home. It will be worse for Giroux because he is competitive and will get frustrated by his play.

Couturier does not deserve to be lumped in with those others. He is still the best play driver on the team and his line mates stats are proof of this. Injury or not he has been great all season.

If they decided it was too me to move on from the vets I think Coots is the cut off. I can't see moving him unless a team is offering up a huge overpayment

I don’t think it’s a bizarre take, just doesn’t hold water for a multi-million dollar athlete that can afford an extensive support network to help take care of the baby.

Make no mistake though, raising a kid is difficult and draining.

That was my guess as well. The joke was meant to illustrate that if Hakstol had made this lineup choice certain people would be losing their minds.
