Thereare two problems with that argument.

1) Other teams have injuries. The team they are playing tonight is missing Crosby.

2) They have been playing this way for a long time.

They are simply, just a bad team right now. Maybe they turn it around, maybe not.

That certainly isn't helping and Hutchinson's play in the heavy back-to-back schedule just compounded it, but they look fragile right now and seem confused about assignments in their own end, and that's on the coach.

Look at what Trotz has done with a pretty mediocre roster: all 5 guys collapse, simple, simple D.
