Best team in the NHL, first time Caps were unable to pick up at least a point in over a month....Pretty darn impressive for a team of 4th liners eh you peoplekind?

That Webs goal is just straight filth, how's that 'Weber is washed up' working out for ya? Mr Man Mountain himself now has more goals than Subban has points this year

Leafs would be better to play a style which fits them and play the best players a lot
- RogerRoeper

I agree with this. I don't really like it when a coach forces a team he's given to play 'his style'. You need to be adaptable and play with the strengths of your players.

Should be an interesting game tonight .. Both backups playing .. I see lots of offense ... 8-5 Leafs.

Their wingers are to small and weak, they can't win any puck battles.
The only 3 i'd keep are Kap, Hyman and Mikheyev

Unfortunately the style that best fits them is a style with ko defensive game

Still doesnt win in the playoffs

They have to learn to play D and score

They can win in the playoffs. They had a 3-2 lead against Boston.

Pressure the other teams skaters when they're in the zone. Don't give them so much space just inside the blueline on zone entry. Don't go chasing them though, I find we end up doing that a lot and it burns us out. There needs to be a structured formation that allows expansion and contraction based on the other team's position

yes its early. yes the leafs can climb back up. tbh i prefer the leafs (frank) it up now, and find their game end of season to carry into a playoff round, if they are in it. but like yoda and every wise person has said;

failure is the best teacher.

i just hope the guys that are good at playing hockey on that team also have the brains to learn from the mistakes. ego's can be good, but they can also ruin a good thing.

personally the biggest ego is coming from the coach. and like button pointed out on overdrive, ( button btw has been saying word for word things ive been saying for weeks about the team. he must read my work) he needs to take a step back and adjust to the team that he has. a square wont fit through a circle opening, stop tryin to force it. eat some humble pie and do whats best for the team!

oh and this: haha

This system seems to require work rate and determination to implement, along with an adequate level of defensive awareness. Which players on this roster can do that consistently? What are we asking Ceci, Barrie, Dermott and possibly Holl to do. Those guys are average to below average defensively.

Under Lou and Babcock, Mike's poop system lead to a Jack Adams nomination and a franchise record in points.

Since the duo became Dubas and Babcock, the Leafs haven't been playing at a playoff pace. (This actually started occuring and hasn't stopped since 3 months into Kyle's hiring).

Meanwhile Lou went to the Islanders and has turned them into quite the team with less 'natural talent'.

There is a clear and distinct drop in the Leafs play at 5vs5, on the PK and PP since Kyle took over. And the issue is apparently Babcock.

This whole situation is so reminiscent of the Panthers and Gerrard Gallant. They fired their dinosaur coach too. He's been to the Finals since.

i guess being relevant again is better then never being relevant.

when were the leafs ever relevant? dont get me wrong, i like the team, and Ontario has produced some of the greatest players of all time, but if it werent for the fact most of the media is based in Toronto, this team wouldn't be thought of much based on its history.

they have the least amount of fans of all the original 6 teams. havent had a dynasty in 60 ish years... the only thing holding their relevancy up lately is the leaf fans that make up the Canadian sports media networks, who work and produce the shows and content.

We need a shinny coach?

You overrate our team a bit, great in one end... horrendous in the other.

I’d like to see Keefe, I don’t think you’ll see a ton of difference though

Ceci and Marner. 2 major mistakes this off season.

And Dubas’ conviction against the conventional wisdom, ie you just need skill and no grits.

ive tried to do some research on it. ive always been told that the leafs coverage on tsn and SN/CBC is because the leafs had the monopoly of fan support to justify it.

I started doing some research and it doesn't seem to hold much water that statement. The habs fan base could easily support more shows and coverage on english language tv then what it gets.

Why cant the habs have a pregame show on tsn... ??

here are some of the results ive found. its interesting that based on this breakdown male hockey fans went more towards the leafs and females toward the habs.

the second link has the leafs with the least amount of FB registered fans of the Original 6 teams... not a benchmark, but still interesting.

haha (frank) that, the stereotype of our governments are kind of valid, but also kind of passé. We are being represented by a government brought in by old balls and boomer racists. Basically the populations out side of Montreal and the eastern townships.

RDS has amazing coverage, and actually is probably the most balanced coverage in the league when it comes to representing the habs but also their opponents. The play by play is not even comparable. They do an excellent job covering all teams!

that said, yes i speak french, very well mind you, but i am an English quebecer. TSN covers the game already, and we could support a pregame in both languages. just because its done in french, its (frank)ing asinine to leave out anglo habs fans based on the RDS channel. Lots of habs fans in ontario and anglo quebec.

I would suggest the "let's give a f__ for 60 minutes style"... or "yeah... I'm willing to go in the corner to get the puck style" or "the let's not turn it over at the opposition blue line style"...

I'd be okay with any of those.

Would be even better if they could combine all three for more than 20 minutes a game...

now I understand that the "give a f___ style" is hard to capture in stats... but maybe they could use isolation cameras to focus on the players faces ... determine how stressed they are and for what percentage of the game...

I'd think that Harry Potter could come up with something for that?
