Oh (frank) off with that nonsense. This team has lots of skill, and a lot of the pieces needed to do well in the regular season and to make the playoffs. If we only had a competant backup who could play at .500 we'd have a few more wins.
One thing Dubas did wrong imo was extending Ceci a qualifying offer. that cap space could have meant the ability to get a backup we wanted instead of what we could afford. Other than that he held the pieces together and produced a decent roster. He got a good return for Kadri and while Barrie's been a major dissapointment because he's not defensively-minded I like Kerfoot's game. Hell this team was bound to run into injury problems eventually as they've been pretty lucky the last few years.
Babcock I think made a major mistake last weekend. I figured it would have made more sense to play Hutchinson against PHI and rest Andersen for the extra day and play him against CHI but that's really just speculation.
Bbacock will be gone soon if this keeps up and Keefe will get his shot. it was only a matter of time as Babcock is clearly an overrated coach. He won in DET because he had the best defenceman in the game at the time and the two best all-around centremen- who were Selke winners - at his disposal. - AngryWhiteMale
Dubas' hands were tied. Ceci was an RFA with arbitration rights at a minimum of $4.3M. |

Can we get a shot of the 1st goal last night? The one where our Center is just standing there watching. |

Tim and sid showed the issue the best. That cizrnkis (bad spelling yes) dude (frank)ed around with the puck on a penalty kill all by himself and nobody could get it from him. Is crazy really. Our skill is losing out to hard work. |

Or just don't even make that trade as Ceci was a known disaster. |

I hate to say it, but I've hoped they go on a skid as well. I don't want to get into the good coach / bad coach debate, I just think Bab Cock is the wrong coach for this group. You either fire him or burn it down. |

Not likely imo.
Babcock gets the full year. He's earned it.
I hate the culture in the nhl that the coach always goes before the gm.
Babs wasn't the one who built a roster than runs 2 4th lines if there are injuries....along with a washed up never-was backup.

Firing Babcock puts Dubas on the chopping block. That’s why he’s being given every opportunity to turn things around.
Unfortunately, as you said, this roster isn’t built to be a winner. |

It's not one or the other. Wait for a better deal. Work with Z and try to improve him. And yes, currently he's better than Ceci. Leafs d zone is worse than last season by a good margin. - aminnes
Dubas' plan to win a Stanley Cup:
- make the defense worse
- give up a few first rounders
- think that character/grit is not important
- get rid of a good backup goalie and make no effort to bring in a real backup goalie (since apparently goalies aren't that important and andersen can never get injured)
- when after 20 games into the season, apparent flaws are mentioned - deny that things are not going well, and in fact say that 'all is well - underlying numbers are looking great'

There was no better deal coming. Dj is not improving him. And zaitsev's trade clause was kicking in.
But if dubas was cap strapped, he maybe could have waited. |

When the Leafs win the Cup, who gets to lift the Cup first: GM Dubas or HC Keefe? |

No idea what deal may or may not have been coming later down the road. He's still better than Ceci at the end of the day.
If the idea was to trade to get a guy who's worse, but has a one year deal, what does that say about trying to win the cup. You don't ice a worse team if you desire to win. It's just bizarre thinking. |
