I get it that he there because they haven't had a better option until Montour came back.
Hopefully, Montour can settle Dahlin down and that pairing can offload minutes from Dumb and Dumber

Your objectivity and balanced perspective is refreshing, albeit I don't agree with it sometimes. Too many of us (myself included) ride the Sabres roller coaster too frequently.

I've noticed the team in general, but definitely Dahlin, tend not to make decisive, hard passes and clears out of the zone under pressure. They all make soft reverses and clearing attempts in the d zone. They all need to be harder on the pucks

During their 8-1-1 run, they were moving ig out quickly and with authority.
Opponents have figured it out and have clogged the passing lanes.
System needs to have contingencies.

I'm not saying you're wrong, but if this is the way things are, what was the point of acquiring these guys? And if Scandella isn't going to be re-signed, shouldn't he be lower on the chart? Miller is conceivably in the plans longer. I know the answer is "it's about winning the next game," but what have the past 3 years been about when McCabe and Risto are still on the top pair?

dahlin has been horrible on many occasions this season...being subjected to that kind of beating on a game-by-game basis might shatter what little confidence he has right now...

I've made the analogy before, risto/McCabe up top is like a journeyman qb taking a beating on an average team with a lot of holes...dahlin is the future and he'll take his place up there soon, preferably when the team is solid and on an upward swing with him showing the confidence it takes to play top-pairing minutes

On the other hand, they should be trying g to optimize them IF there are plans to trade a defenseman or three.

Jokiharju is this teams best RD right now, as of today, and barely plays.
