Babcock loosing the room would not surprise me in the slightest.
His "I'M bigger than the game" attitude which he garnered from Hockey Canada's treating him like the second coming, will wear thin. And his willingness to reward role players for playing their role and then excuse them when they get over extended while slamming his stars is pretty well known from his time in Detroit.

And really, if he can't get more out of this talent, he is not the coach people like to paint him to be.

This is ALL about Matthews and I will go so far as to say that this player will not win a championship throughout his entire career.

To point the finger at one of the most successful coaches in history is ludicrous! Babcock's best quality is not even his coaching abilities ON the ice, it's everything he does OFF the ice with his players. He turns boys into men, men into better men. He mikes your life better, makes your family stronger...it's not Babcock whatsoever.

I would give up on Austin Matthews loooooong before giving up on Babs. (and you know what? even though Matthews has obviously checked out on Babcock and his tough love, "like at yourself in the mirror" surmons, Babcock will still never give up on Matthews...as a player or as a person).

and even though Matthews is a prima donna, it's still unfair to him to put all of the pressure on him that the Leafs media has. Comparing him to Draisaitl, Marner, etc.....that doesn't help either.

Babcock isn't to blame, Dubas isn't to blame, the players aren't to blame. It's all of them collectively. Do changes need to be made? Sure.

Did Oilers fans blame McJesus and Dr. Drain for last year's mess of a season?

Dubas set the tone for this but getting walked over by the players and has constructed this roster poorly... Babcock has lost the room and seems incapable of coaching the players he has been given..

I think Shanny should pull the plug on both call this season a wash and get ready for next.

At risk of eating my words, the early season small sample size sure indicates the Sabres won the Babcock sweepstakes after all....to be clear I’m sure he’ll turn things around and all this really shows is that he’s flawed like most coaches, but also that he’s probably not worth that contract.

You could interchange the title of Babcock with Laviolette.
