It's clear it's because Varlamov is here

I feel bad if we lose Greiss because he is a good guy and has played well but Sorokin has much more upside and more of a future.

Fact is Stone wouldn’t agree to a contract with the Isles.

Oh Hall, we will see, time will tell if this needs to be revisited. Fact is you can’t say what Lou will give up. The state of the team at the time and the reality of competing for the Cup and Lou and Trots belief in the team will dictate what said chance at the Cup is worth.

I had not heard this at all. I heard that the isles were going to trade Dobson and a second for Stone. Ottawa was going to make that deal but wanted Branstrom more.. so Vegas said they would only give up B-strom if they could get a contract done first.. so we lost. (Isles getting or not getting a contract never factored into the discussion).

Be honest.. did you ever think you would say that about Mayfield while back?

Nope, definitely not.

Understandable with the lousy coaches we had. Was very little hope for Mayfield and most dmen.

He's not perfect, but no third-pairing guy really is. A team like TOR would be a good fit given the fact that he makes peanuts compared to other similar players and he's signed for three more years after this one.

No question. Barry and his staff did wonders for Pelech and Mayfield. This does not say they have no talent.

Says who? They wanted Dobson and Lou wouldn't give him up. I don't think they ever even got to that part. Hell, McPhee didn't even tell Dorion that he needed Stone to sign an extension until after they had agreed on the framework of that trade.

They agreed to a contract in principle but couldn’t announce it until March 1st as per the CBA. That’s why they received what they did for him.

[img]The Vegas Golden Knights have signed Mark Stone to an eight-year contract extension worth an AAV of $9.5 million, the team announced Friday, keeping the skilled forward in Vegas through the 2026-27 season.

Stone was acquired in a deadline-day deal with the Ottawa Senators on Feb. 25, where the Golden Knights traded forward Oscar Lindberg, prospect defenseman Erik Brannstrom and a 2020 second-round pick. Stone agreed in principle to the extension once the deal was finalized, but could not sign it until March 1 due to a clause in the collective bargaining agreement.

Sportsnet’s John Shannon reported late Thursday that the formal announcement was on the way.

The Golden Knights have won five consecutive games, all since acquiring Stone. The 26-year-old forward has two assists in five games while playing on a line with Paul Stastny and Max Pacioretty. Vegas has outscored opponents 18-7 during this stretch and the 67-26-61 line has yet to allow a goal at 5-on-5.

With the Golden Knights playing five games in a span of nine days, there was no rush to get the deal done on both sides.

Stone was a sixth-round selection by the Senators in the 2010 NHL Draft. He has scored at least 60 points in five of his past six seasons and is one point from a career-high in the NHL. He has 28 goals and 36 assists this season, with two assists with Vegas in five games.[/img]

No one factually knew what Lou offered. Beau was also rumored to be in play.
I did hear Ottawa wanted Dobson but Lou wasn’t giving up that much unless he had an agreement in principle with Stone on a future contract. Which it turns out The VGK did.

With Lou as GM no one knows a thing until it done. If not heads will roll.

I'm sure he'll get his very own two-note chant following the trend of every Islanders goaltender since DP

I don't know if I'd go as far as saying "I love it", but it's not so bad. It's better than the stupid-ass yes-yes-yes after goals or anything that comes out of Section 329. Or 229, whatever the hipster maggot section is numbered these days
