If the Isles are still going strong at the deadline and Halls available, I would not be surprised if Lou trades for him as a PO run rental. Ticks all the boxes the Isles are looking for in the goal scorer/finisher they have been looking for.

Would be very tempting at the deadline. I would not give up a Dobson though.

Stone went for Branstrom and a 2nd. Hall could be had for Wilde, Bellows, and a pick
- Ddomnitch

Stone had a new contract agreed to in principle. This would be a pure rental. Big difference and lower return.

No they all have to be locked up this offseason. I doubt they're adding Hall for ~$10M plus signing Barzal for around the same, Pulock for probably $6M-$7M and Toews for somewhere around $4M-ish

Now isn't the time to bring it up for a lengthy discussion but, as of now, the Isles have about $16M in cap space this offseason which isn’t gonna be enough to sign all of 13/6/25. They’re either going to have to trade someone or consider trading Toews.

- eichiefs9

Please not Toews let it be Bailey especially if Wahlstrom can make the jump.

They want the best return possible weather it’s the Flyers, Islanders or Ducks. It’s not like Hall is going to hurt the Devils in the POs
- nyisles7

Of course, but I'd imagine if they got similar offers from the Islanders and a team out West then they'd prefer to not have to potentially watch Hall help a rival succeed in the postseason. Not saying it means the Islanders have to add an obscene amount to the deal, just that most teams seem to prefer to ship players to the other conference or, at the least, the division they don't play in.

I could see Bailey being trade bait in the offseason. No NTC/NMC of any sort, so they don't need him to sign off on anything and it'd free up $5M in cap space. I could see Mayfield being dangled out there as well, since he's a serviceable 3rd pair guy and has a very reasonable contract.

Meh, if of course, he would be there during the POs so Devils won’t be playing against him
That said in my mind it’s about the best return.

Yeah I'm not disagreeing. If the Islanders come up with a package that's better than any other team's offer then NJ would be stupid not to do it. All I'm saying is that, given two packages that the Devils view as equal-value, I'd imagine they'd rather see him out West.

Andrew Gross @AGrossNewsday
2m
Ross Johnston skating with #Isles extras so fourth line should be Dal Colle-Koivula-Komarov

- eichiefs9

Missed the first period last game (not the third, though! ), but I thought Koivula looked pretty good in his limited minutes. That line seemed to be on the forecheck more often than not. If Brassard is going to stay at wing, I think Koivula's the guy with a real opportunity to stay in the NHL if he can gain Trotz's trust and show something.

Varlamov get the start tonight? It's his turn in the rotation, but he was also in net for the loss to Pitt the other week...

Yeah, I think so, too. Hell, Varly might even come into this game with a bit more of an edge looking for revenge.

He knows Lou’s not doing it so, no need to talk about it
- nyisles7

Here we go with this routine again. If they want Dobson in return or wahlstrom for a rental I dont see lou doing it. He wouldn't part with Dobson for stone

Fact is Stone wouldn’t agree to a contract with the Isles.

Oh Hall, we will see, time will tell if this needs to be revisited. Fact is you can’t say what Lou will give up. The state of the team at the time and the reality of competing for the Cup and Lou and Trots belief in the team will dictate what said chance at the Cup is worth.

I heard money was the same but vegas gave up a better prospect so he was sent there as Ottawa got a better return

Says who? They wanted Dobson and Lou wouldn't give him up. I don't think they ever even got to that part. Hell, McPhee didn't even tell Dorion that he needed Stone to sign an extension until after they had agreed on the framework of that trade.

Be honest.. did you ever think you would say that about Mayfield while back?
