Mascherin scored. I’m conflicted. He was great for my Kitchener Rangers, but then again (frank) him.

To hell with him and Kitchener.

Now if we can just get him to play some defence...consistently.

Oh poop, that would be awesome.

Have any of you gone to the Leafs subreddit today?

It's hilarious.

This is fair.

Talk about fair. Is it me or is it fair to say that Aberg, Engvall and Korshkov could replace Spezza, Shore and Petan and it would make a diff?

I'd replace Timashov with Shore and Petan before Spezza.

While I agree he overpaid on those contracts, I disagree with unwilling to make bold moves. The Colorado and Ottawa trades say differently. Maybe he’s needs to do another one is what you mean? In that case, I agree. Kappy or Johnson or Barrie to mix it up.
- RafiDRW

No to getting rid of Kappy, one of our two decent sized wingers.
Trade the rest though.

He has been lately, except it’s usually when we’re down 2 or 3.

Kap is our most consistent winger IMO

I always love when non-Leaf fans forget about term conviently and compare cap hits for players who sign for 2 years and 6 years.

Patrick Laine would have never signed that deal for 6 yrears. LOL

I wonder what Marchand gets on his next contract...$15-16m?

Nylander is on pace for 30 goals and 63 points. And his hair is amazing.

I think it shows how contracts age that we are hearing Nylander's deal is good so soon after hearing he was millionns overpaid. Cap is going up, everyone's deals will be fine.
- RogerRoeper

Not sure that is the point.. If you sign the contracts for reasonable amounts at the time you gain that cap money every year.. So lets take Boeser vs Nylander signed 1 year apart.

Boeser - $5.8 mil
Nylander $ 7 mil

Both players are comparable..Boeser scores a bit better Nylander slightly more points....

That 1.2 mil is use-able every year by the Canucks on other players for other players..

Plus Boeser's deal takes him to still being an RFA on his next contract.

That effect is multiplied so let's take a conservative approach that Dubas could have saved 3 mil per season based on the 3 contracts.. 3 mil gets you a decent veteran defense man or a good backup goalie.

As for the other contracts Kerfoot/Kap and Johnsson are good. Ceci is an expensive flyer but he has been at least as good as Zaitsev was but overal I think it might have been better to walk away and sign a different d-man with the 4 mil.

Babcock is playing the poor hand he has been dealt and has not done a great job and the coach is the first one to get the axe but I think Dubas and his coddling of the players is not helping.

Well if any of the rumors out there are true last night COULD be the death knell for Babcock there. That team last night completely shut down and did not play for him at all.

I think the fact that this team has this much talent and has this much apathy and no shows and is mediocre and outside the playoffs isn't going to sit well. There's only so many excuses here. And I think when a guy like Barrie, a veteran who really doesn't complain and can play, says its taking time to adjust because of complex systems, if vets struggle with it how are young players going to fare?! Change assistant coaches and all but end of the day Babs is calling the shots on the bench.

Fact he butts head with Dubas last year and clearly this year with Spezza and all... I don't think this is going to end well.

I think at this point before it gets any worse it is time to just pull the trigger here and bring in Keefe and see if things cannot be turned right around and fast. It's step 1 to take because no trade is magically going to fix things, can't fire all 23 on the roster either, and canning Dubas doesn't fix what happens on the ice.

Boesers contract is 3 years, Willies is 6 and includes UFA years. Are we not understanding that to get a player signed longer term requires a higher cap hit?
