It really is.

Imagine being sword guy and you're supposed to have a big awesome sword fight only for hungover or sick (don't remember which) Harrison Ford to ad-lib shooting the guy down.

Boesers contract is 3 years, Willies is 6 and includes UFA years. Are we not understanding that to get a player signed longer term requires a higher cap hit?

Apparently the best part was this was all ad lib.

The original script called for Jones to use his whip to disarm the guy’s sabre but at the time Ford was having dysentery so he was dehydrated and couldn’t care less about anything. So he just pulled his gun and shot him, so goes the legend.

Not sure that is the point.. If you sign the contracts for reasonable amounts at the time you gain that cap money every year.. So lets take Boeser vs Nylander signed 1 year apart.

Boeser - $5.8 mil
Nylander $ 7 mil

Both players are comparable..Boeser scores a bit better Nylander slightly more points....

That 1.2 mil is use-able every year by the Canucks on other players for other players..

Plus Boeser's deal takes him to still being an RFA on his next contract.

That effect is multiplied so let's take a conservative approach that Dubas could have saved 3 mil per season based on the 3 contracts.. 3 mil gets you a decent veteran defense man or a good backup goalie.

As for the other contracts Kerfoot/Kap and Johnsson are good. Ceci is an expensive flyer but he has been at least as good as Zaitsev was but overal I think it might have been better to walk away and sign a different d-man with the 4 mil.

Babcock is playing the poor hand he has been dealt and has not done a great job and the coach is the first one to get the axe but I think Dubas and his coddling of the players is not helping.

Can't help but notice yoy failed to mention Nylander signed for DOUBLE the term Boeser did.

That's a negative point - Leafs are stuck w Nylander for even longer (which means no stanley cup)

Nylander's caphit would have been 8 if he signed before the season started.

It should have closer to 6.25m, something lower than pastrnak. Which should have worked out to something like 5.5, much like his actual caphit is 6.9, not 8.

It is not debatable that he got overpaid.

Meh, i'm just used to rounding up 7.5 to 8

Point still stands. Nylander should have made less than pasta and signing mi-season should have meant a caphit under 6.

Boomers got upset because the Coyotes hired a guy in his 20’s, who was also big in advanced stats. Took a while, but now that the Coyotes are a good team, they switched their anger to Dubas.

You've mentioned Pastrnak but fail to make all the palyers making 6-7,15 ho have 1 50 point season. Clayton Keller got 7.15 per...

Nylander is going to have 3 60 point seasons in 3 full years. He deserves more than 6.25.

So yes, he did not get overpaid.

Those guys didn’t live off a guy who scores at 20% and could catch a pass from anywhere...if we’re going to look at all angles...if Nylander was drafted by Arizona he’d be making about 3-4 milly...if he was lucky.

Becasue Dubas was unable or unwilling to put guys on bridge deals. He knew a cap crunch was coming this year..Bridging players would have helped to alliterative the cap issues.
