What exactly have you read that makes it seem like a "virtual lock" that Patrick doesn't play this season? Nothing but fear mongering has made it seem that way.

I bring up Couturier because he is the best recent example of fans ready to give up a player far too soon. He's had to deal with his fair share of injuries along the way. Including a puck to the head in his rookie season.

Best doctors in the world working on this the past 6 months with scant progress.
Plus, chances are high he gets injured again before he gets back into game shape, should a miracle occur and he sees game time. Yea, for all intents, he's done for the year.

I guess two bits of good news from the Flyers perspective - he'll be easy to extend, and won't take up an expansion slot.

I understand the concern with Patrick but we are only 20 games in, I don't think his career is in jeopardy, just something they are playing safe and are not letting the kid practice/play until he is totally symptom free. Has he not been skating on his own, or is he skating with the team? I don't recall hearing of a setback.

You kidding. Look how he owned Doug Wilson in the Braun trade. The Sharks have gone in the tank without Braun.
- PLindbergh31

That sharks have actually been pretty bad this year lol...worse than the flyers for sure

Edit: not that I'm a fan of the Braun trade but the sharks are 23rd in the league and on pace for 82 pts so not sure that's the trade you wanna focus on lol

Diagnosis was in the summer, where are you getting 6 months from????
Patrick, 21, has been skating on and off with the Flyers since being diagnosed with a migraine disorder in the summer, Sportsnet’s Chris Johnston said Saturday on Hockey Night in Canada‘s Headlines segment

they are currently on a 5 game win streak and look very good. They are plagued by awful goaltending.

Comments from O’Connor in the Athletic about 2 days ago said he hasn’t seen NoPa on the ice since 11/7. Not good.

Frank, have reporters not asked questions or is the team not answering any at this time regarding him?

We went 5-0-2 and looked good and here we are blasting the GM because of a bad weekend. The fact still stands that today the sharks are worse than the Flyers and in an arguable worse division and conference

Frost centers G & K. Giroux gets to move back to wing where he is more effective and the kid gets his shot with 2 top wingers. I like it.

I think the better question is what have you read that makes you think he is going to play this year?
- MJL

How is that a better question? How does a lack of information seem like a "virtual lock"? The injury status from the team is week to week. He's on a treatment plan. I understand preparing for worst case scenario but fear mongering is unnecessary.

How about the hockey news not ranking Patrick in the top 100 under 21. There are a lot of people ready for throw in the towel with Patrick. There once was a young Center named Sean Couturier.

I realize Patrick hasn't displayed Couturier's elite defensive hockey sense that was evident early but he's got his own bag of tricks to develop consistency with. Would I like to have a player with the early success of the 3 players drafted after him? Of course but the Flyers were lucky to draft a player with Patrick's pedigree and it's still too early to give up on him.

- Baxter27

Too early to give up but also not too early to have serious doubts.

It's debatable whether NP is even in the top-3/top-5 under-21's in the Flyers' system, much less top-100 in the world.

And any comparison to Sean Couturier is completely unearned.

It's obvious that the team does not have a time table for when he is going to return. That there is no discernible progress being reported at this juncture, does not give any optimism.

It's what the signs point to. How often do your read that a player is week to week? That screams we don't know. Thewrre have been zero upgrades on that time table. With reports that he hasn't even been skating at this point in time is not good news. It's not fear mongering. It's reality.

So tell me what signs do you see that point to he is going to play this season?

The season is 6 weeks old and there is still plenty of time to try different treatment plans.

Your Interpretation of signs isn't reality. When the team declares him out for the season. That's reality.

This is denial on your part. It's almost December. There has been no discernible progress. Reports are that he hasn't been on the ice since the beginning of November. That means that attempts to begin to skate did not go well. Again, tell me when another player has been classified as week to week with an injury status? There is no time table for his return because they don't have one. The possibility of Patrick not playing this season is very real. I think you've confused that with he is out for the year. Nobody, including me has said that.

That was exactly point..

I would pretty much say it's a lock he is not going to play this year (2019) and if he misses that much time it's hard to imagine him playing this season (2020).

There isn't anyone 21 or under in the Flyers org that has shown a higher level of effectiveness at the NHL level. It's not debatable. He's in the top 3. That hockey news ranking reaks of recency bias.
