IMO, Marner was supposed to be the "easy one" to sign.. A hometown kid, grew up and dreamed about playing for the Leafs.. I didn't expect him to threaten the team like he did and hold them hostage.. I really thought we would get less than $10M.

It's something. There are around 700 players in the NHL. I find it hard to believe that we have managed to amass the 15 laziest all on one team.

I firmly believe that these are all professional athletes who want to win. It's what they've spent their lives doing. Maybe they are struggling because it's gotten hard, and they're not used to that - but it's time to put on the big boy pants and go do big boy things.

It's very much a team game that relies on a team working cohesively, and this team is anything but. They aren't getting pucks to the net. They aren't getting to the net. They aren't moving the puck. They aren't moving with speed. They aren't even generating speed. In the defensive zone, I don't know if it's that they've lost trust in one another, but they aren't doing their jobs or don't seem to know them.

I remember during losing streaks around 2000 when Sundin and Quinn were there and they would talk about how the team would start playing as individuals and stop trusting each other when things would go off the rails. That's maybe what these guys are doing.

Maybe it's not systems and it's that so many players don't know each other enough yet and aren't trusting each other to do their job.

I don't know. It looks like a systemic problem to me. The PP and PK aren't working, and they can't break out at 5v5.

Does anyone think that getting players on cheap one-year "show me" type deals are fu3king with the chemistry.

I notice Petan is always taking stupid shots, fancy spinoramas as though he is constantly trying out for another team.

It wouldn't be a stretch to think some of these one year dudes are worried about the name on the back before the name on the front.

Not that it is the only issue but it could be one.

Not to mention the millions Marner takes annually on endorsements, compared to the guys who don't have that income and what they took on their bridge deals.

His representation knew they had the team over a barrel, Marner had to be signed an on the ice prior to the season starting thanks to the Willie mess. Marner was happy to put on the brakes once his representation had gotten the team to the cleaners, and sign on the line before they went in.

Not very becoming of a hometown guy who allegedly wants to bleed blue and white throughout the duration of his career.

Schneider is on waivers. Boom! Cup here we come.

How do we afford him? Even if 50% of his salary was retained?

haha come on. lets not go there. Quebec funded the growth of Alberta with money and labor for decades...Quebec, before separatism was one of the biggest economic super powers in NA. Was the center for economic trade in NA from the end of 1800s to the 1960s. But all the power was held by 2% of the population (anglos), so the french voted in a separatist and the rest is history. Toronto can thanks the separatists for their growth and notoriety today. Lastly, we dont need to exacerbate terrible divisive narratives
- munky123

Im not sure funding with labour is a thing. Any kind of funding which is compensated isn't funding anymore. Funding with money. I mean, sure. I'm not willing to get to caught up in that debate either.

Let's just agree to rewrite the equalization formula. Because that way, Quebecs own energy projects are calculated and they don't get the benefit of having equalization free energy and taking 10x the amount off equalization everyone else does. After all, they may be a different variety of energy project, but energy is energy.

And at the end of the day, no ones glass house is clean enough to die on the environmental hill. Except maybe BC, but (frank) em.

Because pick a lane, that's why.

You don't get to say hey im a hometown boy doing what I love for the team I love, I'm all about staying here and the success of the team. But also (frank) you give me every penny you possibly can.

Because one is contradictive to the other, that's why.

Claim Schneider, trade Andersen? Tank mode upgraded.
- Steven_Seagull

Pfft. Schneider would be a brick wall behind this type of team defense!

Honestly, I'm kidding. For cap implications.

He's a reclamation project for a team with a bad starter. Andersen isn't that bad.

Putting him with Rielly doesn't make Holl all of a sudden a top line D-man.
He's better defensively than Barrie and Ceci for sure - but still a bottom pairing D-man.
Dubas franked up this team so badly - it's almost comical.

I guess at least Leafs are leading the league in diversity hires - so all is ok

(we might get a participation medal!! )

I am so for making it equal. I am a frenchie, but called alberta, bc , winnipeg and Qc my home. This country has so much potential, and if we strip the hate, there is so much in common. We have alot to be proud of across this country. Short sighted, imbecile politicians prey on simple fearful people. Unfortunate, simple people make up the majority of this country. its disgusting how divisive politics make the avg person become. Some of these politicians are so simple and far from intellectuals, its sad who we have to chose from. Singh i thought was great, but still missing the point i think. You can be a garbage person, but be a real intellectual with great ideas. Scheer for example, an earls waiter.. well hes qualified for serving tables and not much more.

No one is saying Holl is a top-pairing D-man.. Everyone has said they wish him well and hope he succeeds. Why are you spinning this into something it is not?

I couldn't agree more. I live in southern Alberta, I'm from the east coast... I've lived in Ontario. I've got a pretty good idea of what goes on across this country. The options were pathetic in this election. I expect their petty little Richard measuring contest to continue for eons and things to actually get worse. Set the bar low and can't be disappointed I guess.

Marner: I love the Leafs, ever since I was a kid.. I dreamed about playing for them for my entire career;

Also Marner: Frank you bltches, gimme my money or I'm signing an offer sheet?

- PatC80

Real story:

2018 offseason Marner: I love the Leafs, ever since I was a kid.. I dreamed about playing for them for my entire career; I'll sign a 8y deal with an AAV of 8-8.5 per year.

2018 offseason Dubas: frank that - I'm too busy with Melander, and you're not worth 8-8.5mln AAV anyways!

2019 offseason Marner: After my 94point season and being in top3 of primary assists in the league, while being consistently one of the best players on this team - and taking into account that you just gifted teammate Matthews (that guy that never got close to me pointwase) the most player friendly contract in the league..
Frank you Kyle, gimme my money!
