59?
- Ogilthorpe2

#59 his 1st year for 4 games. #55 for 9 games in year 2 and then #25 for 4 years with the Hawks.

Listed as 5'11/185# and the Hawks picked him #12 OA in 1992.

Glad my memory isn’t totally shot. For some reason 59 is the one that sticks in my head.

To answer a post by Savetheembers33 in the last blog:

I like the lines as they are. When the Hawks are behind in the third period, I can see JC shortening the bench and playing Dach with Shaw and Kubalik. I can also see Dach seeing time on PP2, I guess for Nylander, because you aren't going to take that time away from Toews. As currently constructed, I see Caggiula, Carpenter and Smith rotate (and maybe sit Dach if he looks tired or needs a press box session). Of course any injury or a few losses in a row and everything will change.

I agree I like the lines as are currently constructed as well. If it ain't broke don't fix it. Let them ride this out. My comment was more based if the team continues to play well and Dach's game continues to get better and better. It'll be harder and harder to justify playing him on the 4th line for around 10-12 minutes a night.

I would agree he would get bumped up with Shaw and Kubalik in some game situations if he's playing very well AND Kampf isn't doing the things he needs to be successful.

It could be Shaw who's the odd man out on the PP. He's the only guy I haven't seen doing too much though I love having him in front of the net for screens and deflections because he's willing to do that and fight for it every shift. That's what I love about Shaw to go off topic for a split second. He may not show up on the stat sheet regularly and yeah he takes bad penalties but he does the dirty work that needs to be done and will be the first to defend a teammate. You need these kinda guys.

Dach definitely will need some games off here and there if they want him to still have anything left in the tank come the end of the season where HOPEFULLY they can be fighting for a Playoff spot

The son of Blackhawks legend Sergei Krivokrasov, Nikita Krivokrasov, was just acquires by the Prince George Cougars and will play with current Blackhawks prospect Cole Moberg.

Haha wow crazy that all these guys have their kids playing pro hockey now or are working their way towards it.

I always use Krivokrasov as a reference any time someone asks me how long I've been a Hawks fan for. If you're a die hard you know who he is and remember those extremely lean years lmao

God, you are young. Bless you.

My players of first (and yes, also lean years) recognition are the splendid core of pappin, maki, Korral, "Pit"....and of course the studs...Makita, Hull, Hull and Espo.

But, Pappin, Pit Martin and Maki are names that let me know if somebody of my era really "Knew" the Hawks. Any hockey fan knows (or knew) the "Big 4"...

Oh...BTW...THAT was my introduction to the Hawks...a bitter lose to the Habs on a dipping shot from otside the blueline that ESPO mishandled.

Made this young 6-7 year old cry.

It was awful....then decades of losing...a few spots of hope...Savard yrs, Roenick yrs...and then....2010!!! My, for those like myself with that long wait...I think it was more relief than elation.

oh......and I STILL hate the blasted Habs!!!!

We're of the same era. Pit was my favorite player. I was too young to know that he was the Brandon Saad (red font) of his day, having been traded for one of the actual best players in the game, Espo.

Had no idea about the trade yet still hated the Bruins...Habs too of course. Man, how good would have Phil looked continuing on as a Hawk. Hawks probably could have just traded Hodge to get Martin...maybe Stanfield too but I believe the deal was Phil reportedly bruised someone's ego at the time and had to go. Can't recall if it was Tommy Ivan Arthur Wirtz or both.

Lmao yes, I'm only 29. I've been a Hawks fan since I was about three or four because of my family especially my grandfather who's almost 80 so I grew up my whole life hearing about Bobby Hull, Mikita, Dennis Hull, Esposito, Pappin, Martin, all those guys. Can't say I got to see those guys play or experience the old Chicago Stadium either, but I'm a die hard to my core when it comes to this team though sometimes i wonder why cuz those teams after Roenick, Chelios, Belfour, etc. got traded where straight garbage lmao

To my point, I use Krivokrasov as a reference to people around my age or slightly older because if you know who he is then you were watching back then when you couldn't even find them on TV (used to listen to the games on the radio when they were home that's how much of a fan I was lol) and you didn't just start watching when Kane and Toews got called up and call yourself a die hard (not saying you can't be at this point but in the middle of their run hearing people call themselves a diehard when they've been watching for two years bothered me lol). I even use the ABC Line in the early 00's as a reference as well.

IF (big if) the Hawks are in the playoff picture at the TDL, who (or what position) would you target?
- LAHawk

Big power forechecking forward loke a simmons or maroon type player.
- Scott1977

Exactly what I was thinking and if NJ is out of the race Simmonds could be a perfect rental to pick up for the rest of the year to play with Toews and Saad. He could likely be had for a decent price as well being on a one year deal and not having a fantastic year thus far.

If they were looking a bit more expensive Tyler Toffoli could be a good target as well.

Please don't start with the lets go get Taylor Hall stuff we just got ourselves outta cap hell and built up a pretty solid farm system. Lets not go out and blow that up to trade for a guy who's a hell of a talent (though has injury problems) and is gonna want AT LEAST 10M+ (probably closer to 12M+). Sorry but I'd rather pay Strome, Lehner, Kubalik, etc. for the amount it would cost to sign him. Not to mention the draft and prospect capital it would take as well.

Fuel for the Maatta discussion, from ‘The Athletic’. Go.

Olli Maatta

One has to wonder whether Stan Bowman would have traded Dominik Kahun to Pittsburgh for Maatta had he known he’d be able to get de Haan from Carolina for a song later in the offseason. Maatta is a viable defenseman and a well-liked player, but he’s signed for two more seasons with a few blue-chip blueliners on the way up. Goaltending has been especially kind to Maatta, who has a positive goal differential (14-13) despite a 41.03 high-danger scoring-chance percentage, the second-worst among Blackhawks defensemen and behind only Gustafsson, his likely long-term partner now that Murphy is back in the lineup.

- scottak

There is no wondering IMO. If they knew they would/could land deHaan and Lehner, there would be no Maatta. But until somebody else can take that slot (and there isn't much immediate depth on the left side), he probably isn't going anywhere.

The thing to watch is Mitchell's progress. He said he'd sign, but I assume that happens (health assumed) right after the NCAA season is over and he pencils in for a look in late March/April.

For that reason among others, somebody is going to be exiting IMO no matter where they are in the standings, injuries notwithstanding.

- jrsamu

I wonder as much as Maatta might fit the age frame of most of our guys if he won't end up being the guy who's moved out to make room. Murphy keeps getting better and better here and de Haan seems to be keeping Seabrook serviceable. If Boqvist is going to get regular playing time and they want to have a roster spot for Mitchell as well someone is going to have to go and I don't think Keith is gonna be leaving anytime soon.

Wonder if you could talk to the Kings about Maatta for Toffoli with some other pieces involved. Could help both teams out. Should be interesting to follow.

ohh man yeah that was a horrible draft. At least when you look back at it there wasn't any obvious studs that were picked after them that makes it look that much worse but I remember Dollar Bill trying to sell us on those great Russians that were gonna be next great 1-2 punch in this league and bring us back to the promise land

During the playoffs that veteran Blackhawk team was oblivious to crews and like to stay out...Billy Reay was doing a room check and heard all this noice and when he knocked on the door, shouted in, no one answered, until he got a ways down the hall and Phil told him to frank himself.
The didn't win in the Cup and with expansion knew they could only protect so many and needed younger prospects at goal and Dee and made this GOD awful trade, and DIDN'T EVEN get Bernoe Parent or Doug Favell, they got Jack western league Norris!
Gilles Marotte had upside and was only available b/c the Bruins had a teenager they knew was gonna play a long time named Orr, and Marotte COULD have developed (but alas never really improved to high end NHL defender, and although the speedy Pit Martin is beloved by so many here, he was no big centre like Phil, just a quicker one.

I have only purchased ONE set of hockey cards in my life and answering an ad in the HockeyNews that fall the year prior to expansion to 12 teams, I bought a Topps set through the hockey news from Canada that I believe was cut from sheets and sold.
This was the year all the sports sets players photos were encased in the "Mahagony Televison sets."

I looked at them after purchased encased the stacked set in double thick plastic and let them set, only looking at them maybe twice because the sight of Hodge, Stanfiled (with spleen intact) and Phil Esposito in the Indianhead and thoughts of the trade, just upset me, really.

The good news is
a) the Orr rookie card is in it.
b) the set in still complete and in good condition.

I approached two of the sports action hoses and they are very hot to sell all but not keep the set intact.
Yeah I realize the bigger cards are easily auctioned, but I really wish the set could stay together as if gives a true snapshot of what those six established clubs HAD on their rosters before the league expanded.
Am I wrong to think I can find a buyer that will keep the cards a set?

Anyway, cannot look at them and this trade and Tony Esposito giving up those two goals against Montreal in the 3rd period while I was in attendancee, are things that I can't let go of.
(and I have told my neighbor, Phil as much and even his retaarnt owning son, Jason. It hasn't gotten me a complimentary French fry; maybe they have added "space" to the ones I have paid for.)

I was at the game, sitting right under the old pressbox under the Blackhawks Standbys banner. Hawks up 2-0, then Lemaires shot from center ice in the fog. tied 2-2 going into the third and the Pocket Rocket made Magnuson (the Olli Matta of his day) look like a statue to score the winner. Dryden had to make an unbelievable save to rob Pappin late in the third. Pappin even had his stick in the air.
