God, you are young. Bless you.
My players of first (and yes, also lean years) recognition are the splendid core of pappin, maki, Korral, "Pit"....and of course the studs...Makita, Hull, Hull and Espo.
But, Pappin, Pit Martin and Maki are names that let me know if somebody of my era really "Knew" the Hawks. Any hockey fan knows (or knew) the "Big 4"... - hawk35
Don’t forget Pat Stapleton and Bill White. |

Haha that's awesome. Pavel Bure was one of my favorite players in the league back in the 90s. He was so good. Imagine how good he would in this NHL now where smaller guys thrive that much more |

If you like IPA (I Party Alone) and you're in Ontario, try Flying Monkey Amber Ale. - paulr
I’ll look for it. I had one in Toronto recently called (I think) Barking Squirrel? That was pretty good. |

Before them in the earlier 60's, Ken Wharram, Doug Mohns. Bill Hay, Eric Nesterenko.
Pappin obtained for Pilotte and Martin for Phil Esposito.

Now listen here Darcy Rota...you didn't come along until a year or two later...but, I remember you well too.
Yes. Stapleton and White also names of my first watch era.
But, for some reason it is Pappin, Maki and "Pit" that stick out as the secondary guys on the team I first got hooked on.

Jerry Korab was another one. A big boy then (and now) at 6'3/220. He eventually ended up with the Sabres.
In one Hawks/Sabres game, Dennis Hull did something to Korab while in Sabre zone that just set Korab off. Hull was behind the net and Korab in front. Korab dropped his gloves and reached over the net, got a hold of Hull's sweater, dragged him to the front and pummeled him. |

Fuel for the Maatta discussion, from ‘The Athletic’. Go.
Olli Maatta
One has to wonder whether Stan Bowman would have traded Dominik Kahun to Pittsburgh for Maatta had he known he’d be able to get de Haan from Carolina for a song later in the offseason. Maatta is a viable defenseman and a well-liked player, but he’s signed for two more seasons with a few blue-chip blueliners on the way up. Goaltending has been especially kind to Maatta, who has a positive goal differential (14-13) despite a 41.03 high-danger scoring-chance percentage, the second-worst among Blackhawks defensemen and behind only Gustafsson, his likely long-term partner now that Murphy is back in the lineup.

I wonder what Koekkoek and Gilberts numbers are? I bet they aren't pretty
Him and deHaan been playing their off sides, Maata definitely not as good as deHaan but way better when he plays LDman.
Does Maata play the PK as well? I think so, I'm in the camp can never have enough NHL dmen in your line up. Koekkoek and Gilbert are still AHL players.
Also i don't see 7 playing his off side and this year he either played with Keith, Maata or deHaan, all quality dmen. So many scoffed that 7 was done and Bowman made it a point to bring in NHL dmen and so far so good. Now if all the dmen can stay healthy let's see what we got. |

Darcy was my guy. #18 before Savard came along. I was heartbroken when they traded my 2 favorite players in Rota and Ivan Boldirev to the Flames for Tom Lysiak, Greg Fox, Hal Phillipoff and 2 others.
Both Rota and Boldirev went on to have pretty decent careers with the Canucks and old Ivan ended up I believe in Detroit. |

Best pure fighter I ever saw, his one punch knockout of Marc Tardiff after the one eyed Canadian coach Claude Ruel was egging Tardiff to challenge Russell was the best punch by a hockey player I ever saw.

I get this is a discussion board, and these are all hypotheticals, but we don’t know what this team is yet. Let’s just say that they pulls rabbit out of (somewhere), and they finish first in the division. Is that all smoke and mirrors? Are they still not a contender because of our original expectations/assumptions?
We are 20 games into an 82 game season. If we are solidly in playoff position near the TDL, I wouldn’t make a single move unless we get absolutely blown away with an offer. - Chunk
The next 6 games that Tyler outlined in his blog are going to tell a lot about where this team is, Av's and Stars twice, Carolina and Tampa.
