Those two sentences contradict each other. If the agent says he's not willing to play there, the team's not going to trade for him. That's leverage. The fact that he's playing in Finland right now gives him leverage.

Obviously he has less leverage than a pending UFA, but if Holland wants a reasonable return for Puljujarvi, he's going to have to find a match that works for him.

If he was nothing but an RFA with no rights, he'd be playing in Edmonton right now. He has leverage, and he's using it.

Counter point: If he nixes a trade that benefits the Oilers, he never plays in the nhl again. So theres that. Hes simply not good enough to demand anything at this point. He is a good prospect but not good enough to get whatever he wants, so if he wants to play that card, it will likely cost him his career and millions of dollars.

How does it benefit the Oilers to get all cranky and not trade him until they lose his rights? If he continues to excel in Finland, they'll be able to figure something out that makes everyone happy.

It behooves Edmonton to find a deal that works for everyone. Neither Tim Erixon nor Adam Fox had any leverage but still got to choose where to play because it made no sense for the teams that drafted them to hold onto their rights when they could get something in return.

If Puljujarvi actually tells the Oilers that he wants to be traded to the Habs, and the Habs are willing to make a reasonable offer, why wouldn't they make that deal?

Adam Fox had incredible leverage. As an unsigned college draft pick he would have become a UFA if he didn't agree to terms. It's an odd loophole. Justin Schultz was in the same camp. Carolina hoped Fox would sign, and when he said New York or nothing, they simply got what they could. Puljijarvi can't do that. He can refuse to sign a qualifying offer of the Oilers. They can trade him anywhere they want. And Puljijarvi can continue to refuse to sign a qualifying offer and stay in Europe. Cool. But if his end-game is to become a Hab, well then he either has to wait for whoever holds his NHL rights to trade him there (and why would Holland get a great offer from the Habs if nobody else is bidding?) or he returns to whoever holds his rights (ie Edmonton or whatever random city they trade him to) and he puts in the necessary years to become a UFA. Now he's earned the right to play wherever he wants. But the comparison to Fox is apples and oranges. P.S. The Oilers keep his rights forever. He owes them RFA years before becoming a UFA. Something Fox and Schultz never had to do. Huge difference.

What do the Oilers gain by not trading Puljujarvi? The same thing the Hurricanes would have gained by not trading Fox. The Flames got a reasonable return for Erixon and the Canes got a reasonable return for Fox. Both of them made it pretty clear where they wanted to play and the Rangers still made a fair offer. Why wouldn't the Habs make a fair offer if there's mutual interest?

And not that the Oilers are stupid enough to let it actually get this far, but they don't have his rights forever. He's a UFA when he turns 27.

All I will say is. I confirm the news about Jesse

2020 draft could rival the 2003 draft.
Oilers may want a 2nd and a prospect.
Any team dealing picks from the 2020 draft is not just tossing away garbage.
