Travis Yost calmed me down

He said there is absolutely more talent on this roster than last year and we aren’t the only team playing god awful right now. Its just so familiar to us

They will be ok *if* this GM makes a move.

I think he will.

- sbroads24

And if they don’t we add another top 10 pick to Eichel, Dahlin, Reinhart, Skinner, Montour, Cozens, Mitts, Joker, Pilut.

How many teams would trade their aging cores for that ?

Let's not forget about UPL.

Maybe next year, but surely the year after.

I always wonder what could have been if Murray would have just been patient and let the system mature. I know he was probably given a mandate to improve but what if he would have kept McNabb, Zadarov, JT Compher, and the 1st round picks and 2 nd rnd picks, while adding Eichel and Rhino. He still would have been let go, but Botts would have had so much more to work with. I mean Botts doesn't get a free ride with some of the poop going on, but this team would have been so much better at this stage. Sorry just spurting out poop, can't live in the past

So you want to fire the GM so that they can hire someone else with a 3-5 year plan?

Good lord man

Door is wide open for him. Our goaltending is very mediocre.

I wouldn’t say Pilut and Montour are the envy of all the league’s GMs.
And you might be trolling by putting Reinhart and Skinner on this list.
Also Mitts has a very long way to go before he’s dominating the league.

Every team has prospects that their fans and management are excited about.

So you’re cool waiting another potentially 5 years to be good as long as it’s not Botterill?

Yet Botterill doesn’t get 5 years?

Am I misunderstanding?

The Jets missed the playoffs 6 out of Chevy’s first 7 years.

The Avs have been in and out for years.

The Leafs (who will rebound) have been rebuilding since 2012.

Arizona, Edmonton, Vancouver all look strong.

The Lightning took Stammer and Hedman and weren’t an elite team right away. Sucked enough to grab Drouin a few years back.

Things take time.

You want perspective?
Here's some god damned perspective

In this, the Sabres Golden Anniversary, the Sabres:
-are completely poopting the bed,
-have been out of the playoffs for 8 years,
-have been proclaimed to have one of the best prospect pipelines a couple years ago... yet still suck, with their youngins looking completely lost
-have been to the SC Playoffs twice...twice in fifty fvckin years!!

So don't tell us seasoned fans to be patient... patience left like 15 years ago.
JC!!

Ok, rant over. How about those Bills!

I dont think we're 5 years away, but neither do i dont think Botterill is the guy to put it together. He's proven incapable of accruing meaningful forward talent in my opinion, and despite his tinkering, our top pair is a remnant from 2 regimes ago. I'm over him. The best thing we can do is show him the door with his 10 UFAs. I dont want him picking more players

But that prospect pool was disintegrated by Murray and the trades he made

Botts is who we needed at the beginning, perhaps Murray would have been effective at this stage of the process.

Murray took Leon over Sam

Traded a boatload of assets for ROR instead of being patient. Imagine adding one of Matthews, Laine, Dubois, Tkachuk, Keller to the aforementioned core I referenced at the top of the page instead of Nylander. (Heck he might have taken Puluarvi or Juolevi anyways and still franked us).

Moved a 1st rounder for Lehner and blew a shot at one of Konency, Boeser, White.

He also completely ignored the defence, while handing out two brutal contracts in Ennis and Okposo.

Armia would be a step up over anyone currently in our bottom 6, as would JT Compher and Jack Roslovic. Zadorov would be one of our 3 best LHD. McNabb and those two 2nd round picks > Deslauriers and Fasching.

Murray jumped the gun, while Botts may be too patient.

At least by being patient we are adding another top pick this year and although he is hoarding assets on the back end he hasn’t blown it by losing another trade.

You’re not wrong he hasn’t put together capable forwards.

But he also hasn’t invested heavily in them at all.

He’s made one big investment in a forward and it’s Skinner.

He’s tried to add depth guys like Sheary/Vesey and it’s been

I think it would be worse if he traded 5 pieces for a player who wanted to leave 3 years later

What might have been, we had 1 of the best prospect pools in the league at that time and he blew it up in a matter of 1 1/2 years instead of just adding to it with the poop ton of picks Darcy had stockpiled. What a different story we all might be talking about right now.

I’ll be the first to admit I expected Vesey and Sheary to be better but you hit the nail on the head. These were short term stop gaps to give the kids time to develop instead of being rushed.

There is a reason both of those players were expendable for mid round picks.

It’s possible the team he’s put together is making players wanna go elsewhere, and keep other players from wanting to come here.

Sure and the Wild have made the playoffs consistently as well. Who would you rather be a fan of today ? Who has the better outlook for the future ?

If you don’t win the cup it’s all the same in my eyes.

It's kind of reminded me of the Bills. They ignored offense for the first 2 years under McDermott. The obvious exception is that they drafted Allen.

In all honesty I think this is a caveat to making trades.

Buffalo GM’s have to find guys who are signed long term, with no NTC/NMC’s.
Most guys don’t want to be here
I truly think Botterill thought he’d get a Hall for Risto type of trade offer and it just never happened. So he hung on hoping maybe injuries would force a teams hand.

I’m giving Botterill a few weeks. If he doesn’t do anything by then he’s dead to me
