If he sits on his hands again I don’t blame anyone for wanting him fired - sbroads24
I don’t think he cares at all about this year. He’ll make some moves next offseason, but he’ll have the built-in excuse that with so many new players, there shouldn’t be any expectations for that year either. Maybe the year after that, or maybe not. |

I have a serious question, hopefully not taken as a excuse, but what did Botts have in prospects or players to really use when he got here to make significant improvements to this roster other then trying to refill the cupboards. He was not trading away are 1st, we needed those, What was really expected, he tried to fill the roster with players with 3rd rnd picks and trying to purge players from teams that were in cap trouble. Yes he could have done a few things better. |

Armia would be a step up over anyone currently in our bottom 6, as would JT Compher and Jack Roslovic. Zadorov would be one of our 3 best LHD. McNabb and those two 2nd round picks > Deslauriers and Fasching.
Murray jumped the gun, while Botts may be too patient.
At least by being patient we are adding another top pick this year and although he is hoarding assets on the back end he hasn’t blown it by losing another trade. - Pegullaville
It’s funny. Armia is exactly who I thought he’d be in a bigger role, despite captain def poetry poster assuring me his goal scoring rates didn’t mean anything
His career in MTL getting top 9 min
76 games played
20 goals 34 points.
Not bad for a 4th liner |

Nothing, barely any cap space either. |

I'm so sick of hearing that Tim Murray traded away all of our prospects and depth...
What are literally all of those guys doing right now on their new teams?
That's right. Nothing. |

Joel Armia is on pace for 28 goals this year
JT Compher has been improving every season and is on pace for 45-50 points
He had two cracks at Boeser/Konecny/White etc and traded them away.
Traded the pick that was one away from
Sebastian Aho
He traded everything we need right now |

The pick he traded for Josh Gorges ended up as Alex DeBrincat
One of the picks for Fasching ended up Erik Cernak

Botterill is bad right now. He still pales in comparison to a guy who traded an entire rebuild to get to 80 points, and had no moves left to go upward |

JT Compher is pretty good. Idgaf about Roslovic, Armia or Lemieux. Colin White doesn't look like anything good. Zadorov is serviceable.
On the Botterill side, Guhle has 3 points in 11 games for the Ducks. We'll see what that 1st becomes. If either Guhle or the 1st are as good as Montour, the JB fan club will have some 'splainin to do |

Roslovic is on pace for 15 goals 40 points
Armia 28 goals 50 points
You don’t think that’s not exactly what’s needed on lines 2-3?
And they make a combined 3.5 mil or exactly 1 Sobotka |

He had Kane, O’Reilly, Rino, and Risto.
He traded the first two for, what some people consider tremendous return. He could’ve traded the last two. He chose not to. And he could’ve traded Jack if he really wanted to. To say he had nothing to work with when he got here is false. |

Let's see where they end up this year. So far their careers are Girgensonsesque. I'd take Compher in a heartbeat |

Except both have magically started scoring off line 4.
Armia has 76 games with Montreal- 20 goals. 13 at 5 on 5. Which is 2nd line rates.
You can’t say how this Gm failed to get any forwards and then pretend the ones the other traded away, who could very well still be here, for cheap are useless |

Kane turned into Montour. We don’t know what we have in Tage Thompson and Ryan Johnson yet but Colin Miller will be a great third pairing d-man for this club when they clear out some bodies.
I’m all for moving Risto and have stated that multiple times however we can’t just give him away either.
Reinhart is interesting. I could see him being moved but if he’s resigned I wouldn’t mind it either. |

When Murray left
- at the cap
- no forward depth
- Kane a pending UFA
- no Defense depth
- No goaltending, at all
Botterill today
- At the cap, with a bunch coming off
- Good D depth
- Best goalie prospect in hockey
- terrible forward depth
One is still visibly better

That's the problem boards, we are all complaining about no depth on this team, well all the players that should have been filling those rolls were traded away, and the picks that were traded during that time, as you pointed out would have filled out are top 6 pretty nicely. Nothing is ever for sure, but if we would have left are system just mature a little longer and used some of those picks, this team would be a whole lot different at this stage. This of course doesn't give Botts a free pass, he could have done a few things differently. But he has made are prospect pool a lot better, But now with that and the few extra defenseman and the extra cap space next year, let's see if he can be the GM we all hope he can be. |

Exaclty.
This year and last waves of NHL’ers from the ‘14-16 drafts should’ve been filling depth spots, and in some cases key roles.

Mitts and Cozens both hitting their ceilings though flips this narrative pretty quickly. Olofsson should also improve, how much remains to be seen but he’s only played 28 NHL games. Asplund should be here full time next year and Thompson can make things interesting.
We won’t have a crazy amount of cap space but definitely enough to work with to bring in a couple of notable players. |

He had no D depth at the time, he wasn't trading Risto, now is a different story. Kane got us Montour. ROR is hard, but he got us Johnson, and I believe the other pick got us the goalie prospect. And I blame a little of that trade on ownership, probably would have gotten more if the bonus wasn't attached |

Just like Botterill’s impact won’t be truly felt for another few years also. What does this team look like with a 22 year old Dahlin and a 21 year old Dylan Cozens ? If UPL becomes an above average NHL goaltender ? If he strikes gold with this years first rounder in a very appealing draft ?
Jacob Bryson has had a really good start in Rochester. Laaksonen, Samuelsson, Johnson, should all be pushing for time. Pilut and Joker will be in their primes.
