Correct. Apparently pegula asked him how he planned to fix the situation and he had no answer
- turbo044

He also said he was going to give his coach another year and let it pan out. He deserved a 3rd year.

I think you need at least 3 years to know if a plan like "blowing it up" is going to work.

The point was made in an earlier post, which was the "Dreamers" are looking at next year as a huge opportunity to significantly upgrade the roster through FA's.

Yet, when one mentions that Botts should have done more in FA period this past offseason, it is poo-poo'd because of several reasons, one of which was the astronomical prices for UFAs. Other reasons are nobody wants to sign here (Botts unsuccessfully chased several they claim).

My main point was how do the dreamers rationalize those two conflicting points. $35m sounds like alot, it isn't. Prices are only going up, but they would have you believe all is well cause FA will cure it.

The other poster went into deep details to arrive at the same place.
They may be able to sign one higher-end player for ~$7m, if that.

Gotcha, didn't back read much today. Just been seeing a lot of lot of crazy roster overhauls....the Playstation quality ones.

We can give him 2 and a half years like Botterill

If his forward group gets worse over time like Botterill's did, fire him too.

- jcragcrumple

Always been a strong botts supporter and never really cared for your harsh assessment of him and the players heโ€™s brought in, but I gotta say I agree, we need change big time franking again.
3 coaches and 2 gms later we are still a perennial sh!t house, if roster upgrades are not made very soon Iโ€™m going to loose all faith in botts.

There's literally no one good we could get for Reinhart and Ristolainen without adding at least a 1st and possibly another defenseman.

We miiiiight be able to offer Sam, McCabe, Risto, a 1st and then would STILL have to add for someone like Gaudreau, for instance.

That would be the basis of the deal for me like I said the GM who gets paid to make the deal makes them. This is a message board.

Good for Jack.
We may have just seen his best leadership tactic to date.
Players only, closed door meeting tomorrow should be next.

And another closed door Meeting with Kim, Terry and Botts

At some point sooner or later, Jack is gonna get tired of losing every year and want to play in a playoff game. One has to wonder if he thinks that can happen in a Sabre sweater.

Hm, guess I missed that as the standard, since the puck was carried in with possession.
- nfph

Not really, the puck was kinda dumped in and that guy stopped. The first replay I thought it was off because the other guy was clearly in the zone before the puck, but he came right back out before the third guy went in to forecheck.

They have to shake things up but prob is;

Everybody knows they have too many D
That salary cap thing

Botts put himself in a bad negotiation position. Still something has to be done

I'm starting to think that his plan was to acquire as many D as possible and wait for teams that get desperate and start calling him.

Pretend they fire him, you're looking at an interim GM the rest of the year. Does that really help anything?

He brought in a very good player in Johansson on a ridiculously great contract.

He traded nothing for a normally very consistent 16/17 goal scorer in Vesey.

He upgraded our D by bringing in Miller and Joker.

Yes, he still has a hole or two in the top 6, but this team should not be this bad.

He got slashed/cross checked, then interfered with along the boards, then he snapped and got off 3 or 4 good ones and a bunch of others, got 4 minutes.

Our GM isn't good. Firing him gives us a chance of getting a good one. It's as simple as that for me

His forwards suck and his defense is mediocre. Goaltending likewise

Unless there's an unemployed good one. There's no point to doing it during the season.

But the issue is they are bad and nothing is being done, we have defencemen playing forward because of injuries.
Iโ€™m not saying heโ€™s done nothing in his time here but heโ€™s doing nothing now, did nothing last year, this team doesnโ€™t need a jimmy Vesey they need a Johnny hockey type guy, an elite top forward.
I have no idea how you get this player but they need it.

He was good managing a minor-league team because that's what he was. A minor-league player.

I think he's in over his head.

How do you know nothing is being done?

Source? Do you know what he's been offered? We're 6 weeks into the season. Are other teams willing to pull the trigger on a big deal, because obviously it HAS to be a big deal, right? Or why bother.

If I see one more shot hit the opposing team's goalie in the crest I'm going to cry in the corner.
