you think they are competent?

look at the roster

look at the in season adjustments to the roster

look to the inexperienced head coaches, and look at how many players actually got better with these coaches

botts might be a great drafter, verdict is still out on that

but this is his D, and it sucks

this is his top 9, and they can't score for sh!t

and if casey is a bust, that sets the team back even more

there are plenty of bodies for a trade

hell they are talking about miller being on the trade block already

this season the big additions were
vesey
miller
joker
johansson

well 1 is working, but the coach is holding joker down to minimal minutes

I can't stress this enough, they are pissing away the prime years of eichel

- homiedclown

They need to sell high (or while they still have value) on someone like Mitts or Olofsson or even Thompson if a one for one with a D man won’t bring in a top 6 forward.

They cannot just let these kids careers die here.

A Skunk or Risto move rattles the cage for that room.

Mitts is a winger (a wannabe Kane)

Miller is more valuable than a celery balance

Botts has made depth for depth moves for 3 years.

McCabe, Risto and Skunk all have been in the room that had the “this place sucks” mentality so when the grind of the season begins they pack it in. There is no passion in that room. Even a professional motivational speaker can break that cycle.

A core shakeup is what I am interested in seeing.

I would think to fit Johansen's salary long term, Reinhart would have to go. He's due for a big payday and I don't see how you make that work with Eichel at 10, Skinner at 9, and then Johansen at 8.

I think Skunk is worth more than Johansen. If only because Johansen's contract is... not great. If they wanted Risto, Sheary/Erod and a pick? Sure I'd do that.

For the short term you are right, as soon as Skunk gets paid I’ll take the Johan.

It sounds like the rumors about Gaudreau moving are more fan motivated than team motivated. He's not getting traded.

And what do u want Botts to say PUBLICLY ?

“Yeah, we desperately need a scoring forward to help out right now”

Well that would do wonders for trade talks,
wouldn’t it?!
Come on now

- jdfitz77

To be honest, he already showed his hand in those comments.

If we can see the nightmare fuel that is being thrown out there, and that he is leaning on his 12 NHL DEFENSIVE PLAYERS because he really thinks the whole defense will fall apart, don't you think every other GM could see it.

There is no overvaluing our piles of garbage. He's not going to maximize a return. GMs can watch the Sabres slide down the drain and then pick apart the scraps.

Botts needs to nut up and take a swing.

I want this team to trade their 1st this year.

No thanks. Motivation only goes so far. Maybe a first in 21, but this year is bleak. Don't give that lotto ticket away.

This is a situation where the GM would prefer to select a defenseman with that pick. Large D depth is clearly on this GM’s mind

The only reason I haven't completely given up on this season so far is the possibility of a good trade for an impact top 6 (preferably center).

Botts does have currency and it isn't that hard to imagine two D and a forward like Sheary or a pick being moved for a good player. A reverse ROR trade would save Botts tail.

He needs to trade Ristolainen and McCabe and waive Sobotka so this dumb coach stops playing them.

Jokiharju/Dahlin/Montour/Pilut should all be in this lineup playing real minutes

Thompson/Olofsson/Skinner/Johansson/top 6 forward via trade/Reinhart/Mitts should be the top 6/7 guys. Vesey to the sun.

Create a fast 3rd line of Sheary/Erod and Asplund to just forecheck and hopefully get O zone draws for the top 2 lines.

Let the 4th line be the 4th line for (frank)s sake

It really shouldn’t be this god damn hard

Yep, that's what it looks like. Gaudreau and Eichel are best friends and probably would be crazy good together, so one can wish

I listened to the interview and didn't hear that. If he did, I'm hoping it was a gaffe and he meant Johansson.
