They need to come together and put on a run.
They also can’t sit on their hands IMO...whatever if you aren’t going to fire Babs mid season. But there needs to be a shakeup.
The Flames and Preds are both in the same scenario. In fact the Flames are so close to the leafs this year it’s scary. - Santo_44
here's the key point - "can't sit on their hands".....
they are hesitating over firing Babs...
why?
if you believe "that much" in your players - then he must be the problem right?
is the roster constructed well - or not?
if Dubas is waiting for Shanahan to bail him out... then Dubas has f__ked himself already.... pressure will continue to mount.
they appeared to at least put out an effort last night - they go scoring support from down the roster... time to focus on what's "broken" in your top6... |

except that 72 points is only 94 points, which is behind the pace that the Flyers are currently on for the last wildcard spot.
And it's only 59 games now. - BINGO!
that was written before last nights game.
they just need to do the thing.
its simple |

Also NZ asked for a trade, he wasnt coming back.
Had to find someone to take him. the options were probably limited - senstroll
I still feel its a good trade.

if they were already doing that thing we wouldn't be talking about them needing to smarten up and do the thing they already have proven they can do in the past - daeth
they are doing it in reverse...starting slow and ending strong this time.

they just have to do a thing they did last year - senstroll
It's 59 games left to play.
.600 in those give you 70.8
Leafs got 22 pts now, add 71 and you get 93 pts --> not enough!
They need .650 or very close to that. |

So they need to play as well as Colorado or Arizona is right now, when you consider that they need to post a .640 winning percentage.
If there was a magic switch, that would be great, but even last night where "they played better", there were a number of alarming problems - like the left side of the ice was frequently devoid of any Maple Leaf player leaving Vegas free to exploit it.
They still don't have their act together, and the winning percentage is going to be higher before they figure this out - with or without their current coaching staff. - Monkeypunk
yup... by all means fire the coach.
what is it really going to change...
if they want to make a substantial change ...they need to shake up the core guys.

the thing is, I am not entirely sure he walks from him. I mean I hope so..
the order of best case senario
Trade him this season to get something
let him walk
he gets injured and never plays for the Leafs again

You are making this up.
In fact there are rumours by Bob Mackenzie that the Leafs have made their decision that they don’t want to fire Babcock in season.
Whatever. If you don’t want to fire Babs then you have to shakeup the team another way. Barrie or Ceci(if even possible). An outside chance on Johnnson or Kap but those cap hits are valuable the next 2-3 years in years they will need them. |

they just have to do a thing they did last year - senstroll
except why will a team that sucks all of sudden start playing better?
firing the coach may light a fire under their ass, but won't fix the backup goaltending or lack of salary cap room to improve forward depth.
because of injuries, we haven't even hit the roster crunch which will likely lead to having to dress less than 20 at some point.
write off season. long-term i think we should keep the coach that has the best regular season point total in leafs history.

The one advantage to keeping Babs (and writing off the season) is he can be hard as frank on them. Benchings, bag-skates, I don't franking care - just get them to put forth an honest effort.
It's franking embarrassing right now - guys demand salaries above the market rate, and then put forth a piss-poor effort. Don't give me crap about their point totals - I don't give two franks about scoring late to make it a 5-3 loss.
This team is consistently scored upon first - that's just a lack of heart and effort.
I wasn't even tempted to stay up last night to watch the game. I've seen too many poop Leafs games over my lifetime where we didn't have the talent to win.
Having the talent but not the effort? That's just a franking insult to this Leafs fan. |
