couple shakeup moves that could make sense....
Kapanen for Fialia
Barrie for Hamonic(would need a 3rd team involved to make cap work) - Santo_44
Kapanen is paid what he is worth and many nights he is putting in more effort than most other forwards. I just don't see where getting rid of him helps.

Doesn’t matter. The damage he’s done is sooo great, that it’ll carry over for a couple of generations. |

Its a shakeup move.
Have to get the team going somehow and the only other trade that makes sense is Barrie and that one will be tough.
Plus the extra 400K cap space the Leafs would get in that trade would get rid of some headaches. |

Depends on who you ask. Both Brian Burke and Bob MacKenzie stated that a decision has already been made, I'm just not sure what that means yet. I do think Dubas has to set things straight and come out and state what the plan is with Babs - PatC80
Unless the season becomes a train-wreck, and it is heading that way , my guess is that the plan for Babcock was cup-or-bust. |

54 years of damage done in less than 2 years on the job..
I guess, he really did go big.. |

You may be correct.
On the plus side, this should begin the end of advanced analytics, so that's a boon. |

what if Mikheyev isnt that good - senstroll
he's a proper 3rd line winger that can defend, score, skate and play a bit of a phyisical game.
once he's used to the NA game, he'll be a solid player on this team. |

I think a shakeup could be done without getting rid of a guy who doesn't appear to be a problem.
I think you could get rid of Barrie. You don't get much in return, but at this point, he is no better than any other dman in the system. Might as well save those cap$. I don't see the Leafs re-signing him anyway.

If, (big if) they continue to lose then yeah he should be fired sooner than later..
First, fire Babs and then make an impact trade, (not Petan for a conditional 7th rd pick).. If nothing changes still, then we will know what we problems we really have. |

It is easy to address that when he is the only Leaf forward that is skating with any speed.

Frustrating part of this whole thing is nothing with lines will change on Thursday against Arizona.
Same line combos, same defensive pairings, same pk and pp.
Just keep banging your head against the wall I guess, because nothing is going to change.
Ohh I should note kerfoot will be practicing with the team today. If he’s ready to go I’m sure babs will take spezza out. |

Better take out Spezza and keep Shore. What this team needs is more Shore. |

I know the common narrative is that the Leafs problems are mostly defensive, and specifically talent on the D-end and lack of forwards playing team defense.
The things is, they aren't scoring either.
How different would the games look if they scored, or scored first once in a while.
Some of this appears to be bad luck, but every team and every players goes through this. It simply is not an excuse.
I wonder if the *real* problem is that they are one and done in the offensive zone most of the time, combined with a barely-average poweplay. If Dubas wants to assemble a team of high-skilled guys to out skate and out-score the oppostion, I don't have a philosophical argument with that.
They aren't doing that. They aren't putting much effort into the offensive zone play either.
If they would at least try at ONE end of the ice, I gotta think they would be better than what we are seeing. |
