the goat is dogpoop... get rid of this clown and out someone out there that can at least hit / fight and protect the stars
- CarlitoBrigante

no offense... but we're getting off topic here.... Goat isn't the biggest problem - or even in the top 10 things that are "wrong" right now.

i know what youre saying, but it would at least make your stars feel better about getting run all night, and it might add some spark to this team which it just doesnt have right now....

he'd make this team better though.
Barzal vs Matthews is the most difficult of the three, I'd take MacKinnon and Barkov easily over Matthews though.
That's not saying that they are better than Matthews - they just bring more to the team.

45 points for $700k would be playing above his value..

Too bad, he'll be a healthy scratch once Kerfoot is back..

- PatC80

And people wanted to release him

It means people were calling for his head for the first 10 games.

Johnsson was horrible his first 20 games last year. Then he was 4th in the entire league in P/60 from January to April.

My point is that Kapenen is playing great right now and he WILL go through stretches where he is bad again. Every player does but he isn;t untouchable because he has been good his past 10 games. That is recency bias.

- Santo_44

Johnsson is not a very special player.
there are quite a few players that are equally good as him, and on better contracts.

update on the Johnsson vs Frankie Vatrano comparison:

Vatrano 21games 6goals 3assists 9points (1.67points/60)
Johnsson 23games 5goals 7assists 12points (1.8points/60)

didn't he hit the post last night? but I guess since that is not technically a shot on goal (whoever came up with that genius decision should be applauded slowly and loudly) ...

which would I think reasonably be considered a scoring chance...

might have been a better scoring chance than anything Nylander or Matthews had last night..

- BorjeFan4Ever

Nylander had a few really good chances.

I think a shakeup could be done without getting rid of a guy who doesn't appear to be a problem.

I think you could get rid of Barrie. You don't get much in return, but at this point, he is no better than any other dman in the system. Might as well save those cap$. I don't see the Leafs re-signing him anyway.

- Aetherial

Ya, a shake up for the sake of doing a "shake up" move is a failure if youre moving out a guy on a decent contract who hasnt been an issue.
Unless the return is great....but the leafs have no cap space to take on a "great" return.
The issue with moving Barrie is his cap hit is so low, the leafs could only take back a dman with a similar cap. Not sure you find the kind of quality the leafs need in a dman at 2.75m
Kap and barrie for a dman? moving out 5.95m....could get a good dman:
Dumba
Schmidt
Parayko
slavin
theodore
Jones
hamitlon

Does that improve the team?
does it fix the laziness and lack of consistent effort?

Yeah just get players that work hard. We will be the Leafs of 2015....works hard but gets last place. Awesome.

Also people have recency bias with Kapanen right now.

you didn't answer me yesterday.
Would you trade Heinen and Debrusk to the Leafs in order to get Nylander and Johnsson on the Bruins?

People forgot about Kapanen's lackluster play the first 10 games.

And they will forget his good play right now when he goes on a dry spell.

very small sample size - 4 days ago he was on pace for 30 pts...

he certainly took his medicine this week

- 21peter

30pts for 750k is still great.

If VAN comes at you with Stetcher for Barrie do you do it?

Stetcher will cost around 4 million on his next deal...keep that in mind.

Never said he was a problem.

Saying he is untouchable because he has played well the recently is a problem...It is recency bias.

Ya its recency bias man.
4 pts in the past 10 games which he was playing well.
People forget about his 6pts in 10 games to start the season when apparently he was playing bad.

He's on pace for 42 pts.
Good results for his contract.

If he arrives at the total.

understood... but the 4th line center - ON THIS TEAM - shouldn't be seeing more than 6-8 minutes a night - except if killing penalties...

the "place" they need that abrasiveness is on the wing beside Matthews and Kerfoot...

they don't have any of that right now.

if they keep promoting the Petan's and Timashov's of the world (and don't get me wrong I like Timashov)... you'll never see a homegrown talent fill that role.

I believe the only way to inject that kind of attitude into the lineup is via trade...

for Josh Anderson type - who can fit in your top-6 and at the same time not be a liability.

Weird how players get points sometimes when they play bad and don't when they play good

People flip flop over Kap and Johnsson.

two sides of that coin though.
True, he's not the issue and has played well so far this season.

But.

As a result of this and fact that he is not part of the problem that faces the leafs, he could be in demand...get a decent return.
Imo, too early to move him out yet.
