We lost the trade short term, however if Thompson, Johnson, and Miller are contributing players when it counts that will help us win our end of the bargain too. - Pegullaville
Dont rationalize it. Its supposed to count now, that is the worst trade in sabres history unless thompson becomes at the very least a top end 3rd liner.
I dont care if he lost love of the game. Winning solves everything. If he absolutely no way around it needed to be dealt then tpegs should have put his money where his mouth was. Pay the bonus, drill another well and help the team because the cup, not money is the only thing that matters
Or so he said

Which we still wouldn’t be doing with him here so what’s the point?
He certainly doesn’t give us 20 points in the standings last season to make the playoffs, we probably don’t draft Cozens because we’re picking 10-13th or somewhere if we have him. So what’s the upside to having him still?

Well the sky is falling here in Buffalo and we are only 3 points out of a playoff spot.
Teams might want to see what they have and play more then a quarter of the season before making a move ?
The time to make the move in my eyes was June-August but that didn’t happen for who knows why. Maybe Homie can provide some insight on that. - Pegullaville
It isnt falling for me, ive accepted my belief that botterill is safe and this was probably part of the plan i guess.
He still needs to make room on the backend because jokiharju is NHL material but if the right move isnt there then whatever |

Any time you trade a roster player for futures you’re going for long term gain
That first rounder was the best piece we got back and I’m sure everyone was banking on that being a top 20 pick. The Blues going on a Cinderella run was such Buffaluck.
The Blues don’t win a cup and we aren’t even talking about this right now. |

Do we need to draft cozens if we have oreilly?
Perhaps he doesnt help us into the playoffs last year but yea, this year he would be a godsend. Look how much they are missing johansson |

I don’t care what he would have or wouldn’t have done for us, when the guy you trade wins the Selke, lady bing and leads his team to the cup, you’ve lost the trade and you’ve lost it badly. (frank) analytics of it, future values and false rationalizations. |

The blues are first in the western conference right now. Without tarasenko
Are they still on the cinderella run?
Oreilly is on pace for 71 points. Im tired of draft picks

Well maybe if Rhino doesn't lose the puck battle on the wall that goal never happens - Buff36
It's always Risto's fault. Whether he's on the ice or not. Risto was on the ice for a goal for and a goal against. But the Sabres lost by one because he missed a pass to a guy who has one goal in a month playing on the top line and PP, but who totally would've scored there(let's not mention a totally blown 3-on-1, or Skinner hitting the post, where if either had gone in Risto still would've gotten blame for having gone to OT), and then once in OT, because, let's be honest it's a foregone conclusion it would've gone there. It's not like Boston would've adjusted their play being tied as opposed to being up by one or anything. And then the Sabres would've won in OT, obviously, all because of one missed pass. |

The Blues were a 94 point team before even adding ROR. He was missing the piece for them. |

Why does the blues success have anything to do with the fact we traded exactly what we need for nothing thats helped yet? Someone mentioned the other day what a disaster it would have been if berglund didnt quit

“Again, i wanna defend Jason in all this. You know, THIS GUY IS WORKING HARD. He’s trying hard to find and acquire help, especially up front.....
He hasn’t found the right fit, and a lot of that has to do with finances. BUT THIS IS BY NO MEANS FROM LACK OF EFFORT...”

Maybe now ppl can at least stfu about how he’s “sitting on his hands”
That’s clearly not happening here
I’m sure the whiners will find something else to b!tch about though
Can’t wait - jdfitz77
a lot of this has to due with finances
here is a thought, move a d man in the off season and don't bring back larry and girgs
then he would have a few mil to work with
just a thought |

A lot of what you say is true but we had a bad team, funny how he goes to the Blues and his defensive game comes back playing with better players, god his plus/minus went up like 30pts. |

Does it not appear that bringing those two back contribute to the idea that this is another throw away season? Along with the coming cap space, wanting rochester to succeed, ect
Cant reason why he failed to move a dman before it had a chance to look bad

No, Cozens panning out is exactly what we need. A 19 year old with his whole career ahead of him fits exactly in the time frame of the core.
Not a 28 year old player that fit exactly into the Blues plans. We were not the Blues. The Blues have gone through their 5+ years of playoff heartbreak and drafting and developing a cup contender.
The Sabres core has an average age of 23 and we are still building our foundation. |

It was looking damn good until they fired the coach and Binnington franked us.
Actually Ville Husso franked us cause that a-hole would of gotten the call up from the AHL if he didn’t get hurt #Buffaluck |

This offseason he has no more excuses though. 90% of the roster is purged. Playoffs or bust for him next year (and I’m in Botts’ corner and always have been) - Pegullaville
There will be plenty of excuses for Botts next year if he needs them. Count on it.

Every one always under estimates this phase, just took 8 months to get out of the ground vs the 3 I planned.

How about prospects and picks that should have been taking roster spots right about now were either traded away or didn't work out, thanks to Murray and Darcy. We can all blame Botts, he has made mistakes, but he also had to build from the bottom up. Sure he could of traded a player or 2 or he just didn't think it was worth it. Maybe not resign somebody and bring somebody else in as a FA, or maybe those players just didn't want to come here.Lots of factors, but who really nows. |
