I'm formally placing my bet down on Ralph Krueger, leader of men to get the boys playing as a team again to demonstrate his staff and the system will work when properly rostered. He will also help Jack and the rest of the young core to accept the challenge and lead the charge.
That may not translate to wins, since the talent gap us rather significant, but he will succeed in controlling what he can control.

I have faith in him.

Now, if Bott's reported hard work can translate into a solid move or two over the next 4 weeks, perhaps Sabres Hockey will be fun again!

- IonSabres

I agree Ion, if Botts can add a couple good forwards it will help tremendously. Getting MoJo back will help, if they can carry over what they did in Boston, and have a few breaks go there way. We shall see.

Put it in the washing machine on the warm cycle. Medium load. 15-20 minutes

Throw it from a helicopter to see if it can fly.

Google says : "Allow 30 minutes of thawing time for each pound of turkey"

Disco dan was a pairs guy too. I think coaches talk more about pairs when they dont have the talent to put together 3 good players on more than one line. Or more than 2 for that matter. Hence the scoreless wonder on line 1
- jcragcrumple

Good point

The secondary scoring is misleading.

Sheary 6 points this year 34 last
Vesey 17 goals a year 0 this year
Mitts 7 points not on pace for 37 like last year (and a year older)

So bad slumps .

I'm sure you dont want to hear the botts excuses. but I thought we looked good on paper this year.

Dahlin 1 goal? Who predicted that?
Skinner too

Colorado looked quicker and played with so much more energy and skill than the Sabres ever do and their crowd is loud and with energy too even though they lost to the Leafs. I only watched the 3rd period but they out played the Leafs.

Hmmm. The Leafs literally did pairs when they had 6 top 6 forwards

The thinking is to spread the talent over multiple lines. It becomes more important with less talent, and in theory it should be more successful with more talent. I understand why Krueger is doing it. If he takes Skinner off a different line, there are no more pairs to be had, because there is no more talent to spread. Disco liked ROR and Reinhart as I recall and Eichel and Kane

And that’s the reason?

The argument was coaches do this when they don’t have enough talent.

A lot of teams with talent do it as well.

Toews always had Hossa and Sharp and Kane were usually on the same line.

Crosby/Kunitz Malkin/Neal

The problem I have is when we’re down a goal with 7 minutes left Skinner and Eichel should be glued together playing 4 minutes of that 7

They did play like 1 of it, and Dahlin was out there most of the last few minutes, and Girgensons only got one 5v5 shift early in the 3rd.

What is with all the complaining over Dahlin? He’s good for about 9 goals a year and looks really fancy on the hundreds of opportunities that don’t result into goals. This is exactly the way he looked before he was in the NHL. The McDavid of defense doesn’t need to finish chances, just look fancy. 7 goals + 13 assists = McDavid of Defense. The Bears are who we thought they were.

Also, don’t feel bad about looking like a disaster vs. The Wild. They blew a 2 goal lead and lost to Boston in OT. See, the Wild are really good.

WTF!
Sabres in 4-way tie for 24th -> 27th
27th in GF
6th in GA.

Their GA rank is surprising to me, as it is much higher than I would have guessed. If they can get their PK performing better, that would obviously help, but the point is it doesn't require a trade to do so, it seems to be more a system structure issue. Good article on DBtB on it.

While I recognize the chances are remote for my scenario, I would love to see them sell an asset to a team low in the standings for another pick in this years draft.

Sabres sit 4 points out of the 8th seed in the East, with Thanksgiving a mere 4 days away and 3 tough games to play. 4 points isn't insurmountable, but it is quite the challenge for this team's roster.

At roughly the quarter-point of the season, that 4 point deficit projects to roughly 14 points at seasons end. Using 96 points as a guide for the 8th seed, that translates to the Sabres finishing with around 82 points. The projected points at the beginning of the season using a simplified WOW model for this roster had them at 82 points...to which I gave them an additional 4 points as a guess on the Ralph-factor.

In other words,
They are who we thought they are!!!
or
I'm mad as hell, and I'm not going to take it anymore (I might gave to watch Network again).

Rino might be able to fetch them a 1st.
But I think it’d have to be a team that thinks their good, but in reality sucks. Sorta like the Sabres.

Not the only reason the lost, but possibly not the best blueprint for a team with less talent. I understand the concept and realize you don't always want your 3 best forwards on the too line, but why not play Eichel and Skinner together and see what Sampson can produce on the second line. Eichel and Skinner are locked up, why pad rhino's stats this year playing with Eichel...so we have to pay him more??

Bobrovsky was in net for FL last night in Carolina, so I assume the Sabres will face Montembault today. Panthers looked lethargic and slow last night. They took advantage of Carolina dozing off for about 90 seconds, and scored the first two last night. Then they gave up the next four to lose. The game before, they fell behind the Ducks 4-0, before storming back to win 5-4. Who knows what may happen today, but I imagine FL will be more ready to play than they were last night.
