Big difference for me in these games is that they never look out of it even if the scoreboard says so.
Completely different from the last couple years. - Thorny87
Maybe a big difference from last year, but definitely not the year before. They came back in a lot of games in the 2017-18 season.
2018-19, they were in the middle of the pack. |

It’s more about how they’re playing. You can feel they’re not done when they’re down a few.
This year I don’t feel like shutting the game off when they have a second like tonight.
I’ve been happy with pretty much every game they’ve played this year win or lose. |

Oh I definitely agree with you, I’m just saying that they played the same way a few years ago too. They led the league in comebacks when trailing by 2 that year. That’s pretty similar. I think more of it is recency bias lol I bet we said the same thing that year too when they kept coming back to win games.
I’m not complaining at all just pointing out that it’s not that different than 2 years ago. Last year on the other hand they were not as good as coming back. |

Before this stretch of home games (5 of 6), there was a discussion of secondary scoring. Well one guy mentioned a few names he wanted to see start producing and I replied that now was the time. That was about the extent of the conversation so I don't know if anyone else even cared.
Anyway, it looks like there has been a ton of secondary scoring. Every regular scored at least one goal in that time frame, with the exception of Blueger and Simon. How long it lasts is any ones guess. The good news is there seems to be a ton of chemistry with certain players.

Revisit that thought in about 3 weeks. It's not like Sid an Jake (and often Rust) didn't just have one of the greatest seasons in the league last year. |

Right now, Rust went from secondary scorer to superstar. McCann, Kahun, Tanev all pick up a point again tonight and are tracking towards career years. This team has impressive depth.
This is what was supposed to happen if they became a dominant possession team like they have: scoring chances go up and so do players point totals. |

Look at the last 3 years of MM, including playoffs, and tell me you're not worried. Only one 50 game stretch last year above .908 (at .919, so not exactly lights out) during that span and then he was back to .906 in the playoffs. The span above .908 is probably a lot shorter but I haven't looked into the season breakdown.
MM was really good in 16/17. Since then, meh. Factor in a history of injuries, and I say trade him now while he still has value, but if not, definitely don't pay him like he's a top 10 goalie because I don't think he is. This isn't such an outlandish notion.
Looking back through history, some goalies are great their first one or two years and then become mediocre for the rest of their careers. I think we might be seeing that with Murray. Who do I trust more right now, Murray or Jarry? I honestly couldn't tell you. |

The only player to have less TOI than Galchenyuk tonight was Laffery. Galch clocked in a little less than ten minutes. Let that sink in if you want to know what Sully thinks of him. |

1 SOG and tied for worst +/- at -2...on a night when the Pens score 8. |

To be successful over the course of a season you really do need secondary scoring. Let's not forget Geno either. At least last night he had 5 points and simply would not be denied. He even scored from his butt!

Simon was right there with him at 10:14, only 26 seconds more. Not sure if it's that Sully dislikes those guys so much as the other 9 guys are playing really well.
Blueger and ZAR 9 scoring chances for, none against. Second game in a row they didn't allow a scoring chance against 5v5. They're not putting up the points other guys are, but they've carved out a nice role for themselves as defensive specialists. |

What a game last night! Still can't get over that Malkin clapper just standing there waiting for a play and says (frank) it, what a snipe |

There were a few guys that weren't good last night. Lafferty has come back to earth. I think he's been mostly terrible recently. I don't think Galch was all that bad, but Sully was probably concerned about the slightest hiccup ending up in the back of the net. Simon was iffy too last night. |

hah. Pretty much. Just said (frank) it and let it rip. Good enough screen for Geno bombs
