Jake scored off the set play faceoff like Geno and Neal used to do all the time. I wonder why Sid and Jake don't do that more often?

I think they try often, but it takes a sequence of events to happen for it to work. I think Geno and Neal had success because they were really good at it. I also feel like Neal set up a bit more to the right than Jake was last night (i.e., more straight behind Geno).

I think Geno is just better at doing that play, all players have things that feel more natural. Idk if I'm wrong or right or just stupid lol but I feel Sid wins more faceoffs naturally towards the boards to his left and Geno more natural backwards. Idk lol I could be all wrong.

Benning in an article by Seravelli I read today on tsn:
"“Part of the job is that I leave emotion out of it,” Benning said via phone on Monday. “When we did the deal, the timing was right. I knew we’d be adding another top-six forward. I think J.T. had a really strong year last year, but he played on such a good team in Tampa that he was behind some of their other forwards. He had a real chance to come in and be a skill guy for us, and he’s changed the dynamic of our team.”

The part I wanted to point out is how it happens sometimes that a player can struggle, in production, without as much opportunity when they're pushed down the depth chart. It's so easy to ask, "Why don't guys put up more numbers when they get on the Pens?" There's no trickle-down effect when you slot in lower and provide depth across the chart.

If Galchenyuk played on the PP, then I think he would have been able to handle passing to Geno so he can stand there and bomb it blocker side. Jake and Rust put themselves on that unit, and the 4th line was awesome last night. He didn't have much opportunity. It was one game so let's not pull out a +/- now. He almost banked one in off the goalie and did create some on the forecheck with McCann. I think Sullivan was pissed he didn't collapse hard enough on the 4th goal against. He was tied for the lead in goals on a team that missed the playoffs by one spot last year.

Stats aside, it's not looking like Galch is fitting in here. Sure he's gonna make some nice plays every once in awhile because he's a good player. I'm just not seeing the fit. Kinda reminds me of when Satan was here, not a good fit but was a good scorer before.

My recollection may be a bit foggy, but I remember Satan at least adapting his game away from the puck to be useful.

Satan got buried in the minors for the tail end of the season. You can't really do that anymore. It is looking more and more like Galchenyuk will get traded when and if the Pens get healthy.

He had 36 points in 65 games that season but was sent down and I cant totally remember why. Then he had 6 points in 17 playoff games for the cup. I remember him being on the 4th line with Dupuis and Crosby being double shifted as their center in a couple of games in that cup run.

I dont ever remember thinking he was that bad or out of place but in saying that it was 10 years ago

EDIT 2: Disco Dan believed in gritty sh!tty players on the 4th line...no way he wanted someone like Satan there for long hahah

All this is true, but that's why Galchenyuk may not succeed here.

I think the main reason Satan was sent to the minors was to create cap space which the Pens used on Guerin. Different rules back then on burying players in the minors.

Trade for Hall and leave this Geno line haha. I can dream.
Simon/Tanev-Sid- Hall
Guentz-Geno-Rust
Kahun-McCann-Horny
ZAR-Blue-Simon/Tanev

Move Bjugs and Galch

- 668710

Hall is my first hopeful that we trade for.

I would hope for us to trade for at least one top 6 winger
Hall
Drouin
Kreider
Hoffman
Wouldn't mind Turris with money retained I think he could fit in with someone like Tanev. I think Bjugstad and Galchenyuk are both gonna be traded. I just hope for a high end top 6 winger

Oh yeah - I recognize that. It's just a point that I disagree with Mike Sullivan on. I like HCMS a lot, but I feel like this is a usage error and a guy being in his dog house, in my opinion, somewhat unjustly. He may even be called upon to do more if a winger gets injured (which we should know is likely to happen). I see that he's a great trade piece, but I'm liking the team's depth now, and there's zero way he shouldn't be on PP2 with a healthy lineup. Rust is showing no signs of slowing down, but it happens to everyone. I don't see a problem with being prudent about making trades when an unhealthy team is competing every night. Roll four lines.

I'd be more apt to move Bjugstad anyway. There are enough guys that can slot in at center for a guy that has 1 G in 10 GP (although I do recognize that that specific kind of injury can be pretty on/off early).

I've been eating keto for awhile. But today, and at Christmas dinner, I'm obliged to wear out some fantastic food. I laughed at the spread because the only keto friendly food was deviled eggs. Man that was some good grub. I feel like jboyd has probably gotten into some tasty morsels as well...

Gonchsr didn’t fit in here either for an entire season. I really don’t think Galchenyuk is going anywhere at least for this season. And the Knee jerk “trade him”! Crowd might eat their words when it’s all said and done. Besides if the Pens are to trade someone I’d rather they trade a player that will fetch a return. Such as Matt Mr no glove Murray.

I guess the usage complaint depends on how you feel about the player. He's getting 2nd PP time, admittedly never much in the Pens, and 2nd line. Personally, I'd have given that spot to Kahun.

It's a deep team though, so who would you take ice time from? Malkin, Guentzel, Rust, McCann, Kahun, Hornqvist, and Tanev are all out-performing him as top 9 types. ZAR and Blueger have carved out a role eating tough minutes. Simon fits their style well even as his offense dries up.

Reality is Galchenyuk is near the bottom of the roster. He'd be better on a team with less forward depth. Pens are probably going to run 3 scoring lines around Crosby, Malkin, and McCann, so maybe he still finds a spot. I'm personally not trading anyone yet, just evaluating until the deadline and need to see a healthier line-up.

I'll guess Murray today, Jarry tomorrow.

How about 6th defenseman? I'd go with Riikola who was fine for a long stretch. Ruhwedel has been pretty bad so far.

Strangely i guess reverse regarding goalies, and would also go with Riikola.

I'd go Jarry B2B...he hasn't played much, is young and can handle it. It would allow MM to do some more soul searching...now if Jarry sh!ts the bed tonight...well MM tomorrow.
