I didn't think there could actually be anything worse than the current OT/SO system used now in the NHL. This is.
Injuries are definitely a concern, so go to a 10 minute OT... maybe even one full period... and if nobody scores, call it... um... hmm... a tie.
For now, I suppose 3 on 3 is ok... the SO SUCKS.

I guess you missed the sarcasm in the post.

Is CF% based on 3 minutes the sole metric you're using in this evaluation?
- jmatchett383

Shots and scoring chances. They got wrecked early, Sulli made a change and they balanced out.

4th line was pretty solid, especially once Simon switched there. Think I've seen enough of him at center though. Blueger and ZAR were not on the ice for a scoring chance against all game.

3rd line is just mixed parts until we get a center back.

- Tojo.

Kahun Simon and Hornqvist were awful in that 1st. But yah, ZAR Teddy and Dom saw some scoring chances and didn't give up anything.

"Jake Guentzel benefits from playing with Sidney Crosby just like everyone who does."

this sentence made my head hurt.

The HockeyBuzz Department of Poster Stupidity has determined you violated bylaw 420.69c which will result in a 24 hour suspension. The HBDoPS will have no further comment at this time.

LOL, should've had no further comment BEFORE this post.

I thought they had discussed a 5 minute version of this before 3 on 3, then possibly shootout, and the nhlpa deemed it too much extra time and scrapped it.

You're right, but I was just stating it from a fans perspective. And not the fairweather (frank)s that WSC are referring to.

While it's not real hockey, I actually like the 3on3 a lot. You see more scoring chances, and essentially, that's what we come to see. Just not sure games should be decided by it.

Regulation win is 3 points. 5 on 5 for ten minutes if a team wins they get two, loser gets a point. If no one scores each team gets a point and everyone leaves having played an extra 10 minutes of real hockey.

I was actually about to post this very thing, but either 5 or 10 minutes. It is based on the soccer model of scoring. It incentivizes teams to try to get the 3 points instead of just settling for a tie. Although I would say that an OT win is worth 3 instead of 2 (not sure if you meant 2 total or an extra 2 points). OT wins would be worth less than regulation wins in terms of a tiebreaker.

I like watching good scoring chances materialize only to be stopped by a blocked shot, hard back check a d man sliding across the ice just as much.

Impressive that, with all our injuries, we find ways to collect points and stay in the playoff race.

I am not 100% sure if I want it to happen, and not sure I don’t but I suppose I want to ask...

Is there any chance Galchenyuk re-signs in Pittsburgh...reasonably?

I'm hoping for Hall haha. It's not looking like he's gonna sign with the Devil's. You make the room for Hall and go for it. Let Galch walk and try and move Bjugs and you're damn close if not right there. Those two gone is a clean 9mil

It's possible. But they have 10 free agents and have almost 60M committed already. Murray, Pettersson, McCann, Kahun, Jarry are all ahead of him at this point, maybe Simon. They need to sign someone after Schultz leaves.

So unlikely, but possible.

Add in Schultz's $5.5M and you're at $14.5M. We already have Schultz's replacement making under $1M for next year. Trade Bjug for a 7th if it means getting Hall.

I don’t think it will be too hard to resign everyone depending on what happens with Murray. Everyone is an rfa and outside of McCann no one really deserves a good chunk of money. Schultz should be gone, cap will go up.

It’s kind of funny that a few years back with all the pacciorety rumours about mtl dealing him I really wanted Galchenyuk back then. Who knows how his season will end for him though. Maybe he will be back. If he starts producing some and gets some confidence I’d be happy to have him as long as it’s for something similar.

Just happened to notice Galch has more points per game played than Kessel. Probably should pass on resigning Galchenyuk IMO.

I agree that I don't think re-signing everyone will be a problem.

As for Galch, I just think he's a bad fit. One of his best attributes is his PP play but his spot is taken on PP1. I don't think the other aspects of his game, while better than they used to be, are enough to warrant keeping him. I actually think the Pens should shop him now up until the trade deadline to improve a different position.

I wouldn't worry about the affect on future FAs if we trade him less than a year after being acquired as the Pens were essentially forced into it by Kessel. Not to mention I think Galch would be more productive elsewhere and since this is his contract year, it will actually be a good thing for him.

Pettersson will get a nice bump. Kahun and Simon could too. McCann's could be significant if he gets close to 30 goals. That space will be gone quick, though they can open up more.

And even if Marino is playing 2nd pair, they may want to upgrade the JJ, Ruhwedel, Riikola, Trotman bottom end.

It's all super complicated with so many free agents, many of whom can earn a nice pay raise with good years.
