Matthews often gets matched against teams 2nd lines and he has help (nylander)

Imagine if Eichel had that .....

If you really want to rustle Leafs fans' jimmies, tell them Matthews is one of the best 2C's in the game

0 goals 0 assists 0 points 1 shot no hits

Playing with a top 5 nhl player vs. Our arch rival

Olofsson a 7th round pick, picked 179 picks later than sam , looks better . Also , he's a rookie.

Guy picked 1 pick after sam has 48 points this year.

That doesn't bother you?

Sam's 24 and in the prime of his career.

I expected more and continue too expect more

Guy picked 2 picks after sam has 5 points this year.

How bout that for a bullet dodged?

Sam has 104 more points in only 24 more games.

So because we didn’t take Bennett that makes up for us not taking Leon ? Or the fact that we didn’t have to throw our season away and could of picked anywhere in the first round and most likely have gotten a forward of similar or greater impact ? (Nylander, Larkin, Pasternak, Schmaltz, Ehlers).

The point is, it can always be worse. And for like the 457th time not a single bigtime scouting service had Draisaitl over Reinhart, most still had Bennett ahead of him.

They say hindsight in hockey is 20/6 years ago...

I like Sam and think he is the least of our worries on the ice. I hope we sign him to a reasonable long term extension.

On the ice, I wouldn’t mind seeing him away from jack a little more to see if he can drive his own line. He showed flashes of doing so last year.

But it’s kinda like the risto insanity with coaches. Risto is a number one d man and plays the most minutes. He really isn’t and would be better if he didn’t. And jack must play with Sam.

How about seeing if Sam can help mitts at center. Or get mitts on jacks wing. But that goes back to needing a 2c.

Can’t let take away from yesterday though. Always a good game when you beat the leafs.

Sam is what, arguably the fifth best forward from his draft right now? I don’t get the complaint, he’s gone cool right now and still on pace for 60+ points. The only other option where we picked is Leon but it is what it is. Comparing him to everyone in his draft class feels disingenuous at best. Like if he’s not the absolute best from his class because of where he was taken he’s trash? It’s funny, because of all the guys you just listed, Sam as a better ppg this year then all except Leon and Pasta. But, Sam sucks. We shouldn’t be allowed nice things

I like Sam well enough, don't love him though. He is what he is as a type of player, but I would like a bit more feistines myself. It will be interesting to see how he performs in the playoffs. I suspect he is marginalized when the games begin to get more physical. I hope he proves me wrong.
He definitely isn't bad, but I don't see what's wrong with wanting more of a player though.

Sam is essentially Tomas Vanek. He may be a bit better than that (even without the gambling problems.) If that’s not enough, I just don’t know.

When you tank, you tank for elite players not “good” players.

Sam Reinhart is a good player. I would like to see him resigned. I could also see Sam moved in a deal to bring in another guy of similar acumen that can play in the middle (you know the position he was drafted to play).

Sam is on pace for 60+ points playing with a guy on pace for 107 points.

This argument came up because of GMTM’s #1 fan.

I don’t know how anyone can say with a straight face GMTM didn’t blow that pick watching the German Malkin being the lead candidate for the Hart Trophy right now.

Yes and every big time scouting service had Seth Jones ahead of Barkov. Jessie P ahead of Dubois, who the frank had Moritz Seider going 7th overall this past year ? Who had Zadina falling to 6th the year before ?

Leon went one pick after for crying out loud. How could he have not been in the discussion for #2 ?

The only reason I brought up the other forwards in the draft class is because of production purposes not because they should have been in conversation for the pick.

Tell me with a straight face you wouldn’t move Reinhart for Larkin yesterday ?

I don't know that I would characterize GMTM as having blown that pick.
These are kids being picked who are simply not fully developed, so it is impossible to project their productivity with near certainty. Had Sam become a 3rd liner, then one could say he blew it...to which he did with Alex Nylander.
In every draft, when you look back 5 years, there will always be repositioning of the top 10. It is the nature of the beast.

Easy, scouting in the nhl. Or nfl is not a simple science. There is more than just the numbers these kids put up and a lot of luck to go with it.

These are kids that aren’t fully developed yet. And the organizational development has a hand to play in it as well.

Go back to those scouting reports. It was always Sam 1 or Sam 2. Going after gmtm for that pick is silly really. At least he hit on a really solid player that could still get better. And we won’t know that until we have more talent in the top 6...

I rather take gmtm’s beer away for trading 2 seconds and McNabb for Hudson freaking Fasching. God how many beers did he have to make that trade....

I would move Rhino in a second, especially if you could add a Dman and bring back a few good pieces
