...And you can just sign Taylor Hall and not give up anything for him... if this was a guy who is signed under contract for 3+ years, I would agree with you. But you trade a goalie, who I agree about his contract situation, who has considerable value for a guy who could play for your team for 3 months and then leave. That is just horrible asset management. That is no better than trading Taylor Hall for an average defenseman like the Oilers did.

The Penguins will have a tough decision with Murray's contract. Personally, I think a goalie in the $4-6M range is good on a 4-5 year deal. Once you get over $6M and over 5 years, you are asking for trouble.

Where these guys sign is about more than just hockey. Sure, they want to be competitive but they also want to pay less in taxes and be somewhere where they can have fun / raise a family. Maybe Hall signs here for a year to try and win a cup but without first being here and seeing what the atmosphere is like in Pittsburgh I don’t think he would pick us. If he doesn’t care where he lives and wants to be competitive I would imagine he’d go to a team with a younger core like CAR or NYI

Dumo out now. Don't know how this team is going to stay competitive in this division.

Jack Johnson played over half that period.

How is it bad asset management? I suggested trading away a goalie that is going to want 7+ mil a year and get a return that included another highly touted goalie and a superstar as well as a pick if that superstar doesnt re-sign.

I would say that its good asset management to get rid of goalie who is on the slide before you have to pay him an atrocious contract.

Dominik Simon has a career 6.8% sh%. Is there another “top 6” forward with one that low?

I said the same thing before when he was in the top 6 and I wanted Rust. He’s fine when he’s there but I think we can do better. I honestly think Kola might produce more in than spot and I don’t think Galchenyuk would do worse. Still don’t know why Kahun isn’t given a shot there - we need wins!

I concur. I get that we are hurting on the RW at the moment but one thing is for sure,
Simon is in over his head.

Simon helped set up the best chance of the period and had a great chance himself. He just can’t finish to save his life

They really need to bump Tanev up. McCann's line is invisible.

He isn't a threat to score. That is why he is always open. No real need to pressure him.

No one is thinks Simon is worth Hall+. That’s (frank)ing retarded.

Drouin never looked like the next forward stud. He was always overrated. Everyone who’s anything knew MacKinnon was going to be the stud from that team/draft class.

Drouin was Mak’s linemate in Halifax. The warning signs were there that he was basking in reflected glory.

Seth Jones went one pick later, Sean Monaghan three...

Oh I know. I worked for the Lightning when they drafted him. All the kool aid drinking employees were talking about how Drouin was gonna be the better player. I just laughed at them all and said they (frank)ed up for not picking Jones.

Wow... I've been thinking Lafferty might need to go back down to the A in recent games. That was sweet!!!!!

I agree. Said it in the last blog, he hasn’t looked the same since Galchenyuk got dropped from that line. I would be fine with Simon on that line, just not on our top line

No he hasn't, yes a couple times the puck found him but what did he do with it. Nothing. I wouldn't put anyone on him either. Force him to beat you.

I felt it had more to do with swapping Hornqvist for Tanev myself. Their games just don't mix.

Hornqvist is still effective, unfortunately I think his best fit is with Bjugstad.

I think he's having a good game. I'm not a huge Simon fan.....largely 'cause I don't think he belongs in the top 6 (more Sully's fault). I think he's having his best game in at least a month. I never expect him to score but at least he's setting up chances.

I think Drouin would be a much more realistic option to go after.
- 10inchTerror

Yea I could see him fitting in here. Send Galch back to Montreal haha
