I think signing Hall is actually very possible with quite a few young guys ready to take the next step. Plus they’ll be letting go of Galch (meh) and Schultz. JR needs to work some magic though and be able to move Hornqvist, Bjugstad, and Johnson. I could see McCann getting a Rust type deal and Kahun getting a little less. The biggest issue may revolve around Murray’s deal.

I wonder if Legare and a 1st would be enough for Hall. Throw in a conditional pick for if he resigns

- drummer829

No, Legare was just a 3rd rounder and having a worse season, he's not getting a big fish like Hall. That probably takes 3 pieces better than him.

I don't disagree they may be better off moving Hornqvist's contract, but with a NTC and being a GMJR and Sully favorite it's not happening any time soon.

This talk about Taylor Hall brings me back to that summer of Zac Parise & Ryan Suter. Looking bad, missing out on those two was the best thing that could've happened. Signing Suter more so than Parise would've been nice, but Minnesota is crushed for the next few years.

PK might be taking a step back and his contract is grotesque. I'd rather find a stopgap solution. Something that doesn't have dramatic future cap consequences.
- madmike71

Agree, PK has really fallen backwards. Someone mentioned Vaatanen who would be a smart pick up and has played a little on either side.

I'd have loved to sign Suter, but didn't think Parise was worth that big a deal.

Time to package Chucky for an LD.
- Rinosaur

Yes please. I don't even hate getting Riikola in, the problem is they really don't have a top 4 LD at all right now.

Here's who I'd target:
Scandella would be a fit as a defensive, PK guy, but with DahLin out they may need him. Miller seems available though he's a righty. They'd be a team that may have interest in Galchenyuk though as they're paper thin up front.

Vaatanen is probably the top rental D who is definitely available. He's played some on the top LD although he's a righty.

Wildcard is Brodie who seems on the outs in Calgary and they are looking like a team needing a shake up trade. I think they'd want a better forward than Galchenyuk though and I don't know what we have to offer.

I was just going to mention Scandella for Chucky.

This injuries are brutal. This year I could have (could still) see them having a legit shot at the cup if everyone gets healthy and goaltending holds up in the playoffs. I think dumo will not be the same after either for a while. Took EK over a full year to recover after Matt Cooke cooked him. Dumo doesn’t rely on mobility as much as EK but I think it will still hamper him.

There's also a good chance Honka is traded today since it's the deadline to sign and play on the NHL this year, though he's a righty.

What’s the deal with Brodie? I haven’t paid attention. Is he back?

Cooke was a good hockey player and actually got better when he corrected his game.

Somebody wrote this in the comment section on DK's site.... Pens played pretty well all things considered. Goalie isn't cutting it.

5v5

1st period: Pens led 12-7 in shot attempts and 7-3 in scoring chances.
2nd period: Pens led 22-10 in shot attempts and 13-3 in scoring chances. After 2 periods, the Pens were up 8-0 in high danger scoring chances.
Game ended with Pens up 43-30 in shot attempts and 23-16 in scoring chances

Nah. He was at his best when everyone wondered if they were joining Savard every time he stepped on the ice.

I think I would have taken a last minute shot at honka. I know he’s a righty but see if him, Marino, and letang can perform on the right side. Then trade Schultz ASAP when he’s back and work on a solid 2nd line lefty.

They better not neuter Letang with jj. Petts needs a stay at home D, so maybe Kola on the top pairing?

While a sexy option Honka didn't do much in Dallas. Always a healthy scratch. I bet Riikola is better than him.

How about Barrie? Vatanen would be nice too.

Honka is obviously not playing for a reason but a change of scenery to Pitts 3rd rd might help him out in a sheltered role. A solid #2 ld should be top priority but either of those two options would be great. Malkin needs someone to get him the puck when Sid takes letang back

Honks is worse than JJ. Pens need tangible offense not worse defense.

And JJ has been fine for his role. Being physical just how you like it bud.
