Go find it. I never said he sucked. I said I dont think he is worth the second highest cap hit in the league behind Mcdavid.
- Brukie

so you are still miserable we have him

to me, a Ranger fan right now not liking Panarin is pretty much the equilavent of a Ranger fan saying they didn't like Messier back in 1991

our ship has come in, we finally hit the nail on the head in free agency after 14 million tries

- jimbro83

For what Panarin brings, no-brainer to sign him. Even when he's not scoring, he makes everyone around him better.

There was no cap in 1991.
- Brukie

Rangers are probably the reason there is a cap.

and if we didn't give him the 2nd highest cap it in the league the Islanders would have, is that better?

After seeing Panarin play with the Rangers, the thought of facing him on the Isles for the next 7 years turns my stomach.
Don't know if he would have actually ended up there though, probably a ploy.

no, because all the trades for Draisaitl included Stinky and we dont have him anymore to throw in
- jimbro83

So instead of Stinky let's throw in Lias and a 7th.

Lias is the new Stinky. Trade him for everyone.

I think it was 100% a ploy. I really think he was 100% us or bust. I honestly think if he did not sign with us, it might have been some unknown team that would have entered the fray.

Still, I think we can 100% say we should be glad he's with us the next 7 years than against us. My bold prediction (well not that bold), is that within 2 seasons he won't even be a top 5 cap hit in the league anymore. Even if he is, he's earned every penny so far. I mean would you rather have Panarin on a 100 pt pace for 11 million, or Hayes posting somewhat pedestrian numbers for 7?

We already played this song before, i wouldnt care if he went to the Piles or not. One person doesnt make a team. He played for the Blue Jackets and they won only 1 playoff series with him. Edmonton has had Mcdavid for how many years now and missed the Playoffs how many times??

If he is still producing the same in 4 or 5 yrs from now, when we are actually a Cup contender (hopefully) then it would be great. If not, oh well we will be stuck with him for another 2-3 years.

I'll defend you in the sense was at the core this was always your position. However, if what you say is true about one person not making the team, it kind of makes the points in bold sort of irrelevant. I will agree the Rangers need to be smart with getting cheap roster players that can contribute to help with any potential cap issues, however given the makeup of the team with all these players on ELCs, we actually have this. Given the current RFA/UFA rules, we probably won't really hit a wall until his contract is almost up and at that point, who knows what the cap/CBA will look like. I'll just take the production.

one of best players in the Blue Jackets 4 game sweep of one of the best regular season teams of all time and it wasn't Panarin's fault at all that they lost to the Bruins the following round, he had the most points of either team in the series.

You really don't know a lot of what you are talking about. Like. Ever.

No, but surrounding that player with the right pieces can lead to success. I'd argue that the Rangers are building a solid TEAM, not just bringing in overpriced vets like years past.

I will say, as 2Sticks did, that you've been consistent in your position. But, there is one part of your argument I really disagree with (see bolded above).
We are threatening for a wild card spot RIGHT NOW.
Don't get me wrong, I'm not here saying that we are a lock for it. But, at the 1/3 mark of the season we are in the hunt.
What makes you think that it will take 4-5 years for us to be contenders???? Just say you are mistaken about that and we are contenders in 2 seasons. Now we have one of the best wingers in the game as a cornerstone of a good, young, still largely cost-controlled team locked up for 4-5 more years at what will be by that time, an average contract for a top-line winger. How would that be a bad thing?
I see that as being at least as likely as your timetable.

Right but they brought in the overpriced Vet, before they had the pieces, we dont even know what we really have yet.

If you dont see that they have all the pieces to compete in the next couple of years, then it is obvious you will never believe they will. Thats on you. Its your hill to die on I guess.

They have
Top End D prospects playing in NHL
Top End Wing prospects Playing in NHL
Top End goalie prospect killing the AHL
a Super Star level player
And a top line center

Im going to be optimistic and enjoy the ride.
