I will say, as 2Sticks did, that you've been consistent in your position. But, there is one part of your argument I really disagree with (see bolded above).
We are threatening for a wild card spot RIGHT NOW.
Don't get me wrong, I'm not here saying that we are a lock for it. But, at the 1/3 mark of the season we are in the hunt.
What makes you think that it will take 4-5 years for us to be contenders???? Just say you are mistaken about that and we are contenders in 2 seasons. Now we have one of the best wingers in the game as a cornerstone of a good, young, still largely cost-controlled team locked up for 4-5 more years at what will be by that time, an average contract for a top-line winger. How would that be a bad thing?
I see that as being at least as likely as your timetable.

Who would you build the team around if we didn't land Panarin? Chytil, Lias, Kakko? All unproven promising talent. Kreider? Likely gone. Only guy would be Zib, and they brought in a winger to support him. Add the lucky trades in Strome and Lemieux and things are looking bright up front.
So, we shouldn't have traded picks for Fox? Resigned Tony D? Blue line is looking pretty good too with Hajek, Lindgren, Trouba. Losing Staal soon also frees up space.
I'm thrilled with the moves, they made this team more competitive and fun to watch. We will be contenders before 4 years.
