He's a superstar making four million less than he's worth for two more years. They're not getting a superstar back in a trade and trading a superstar hardly ever works out. A fair market value trade is impossible.
There's also no chance the Flames miss the playoffs. They've played like absolute garbage so far and they're still right there. They've had a brutal schedule so far and Gaudreau is going to get going eventually. Wouldn't be shocked if they've caught the Oilers by the time they play on the 27th. - Hunkulese

You are dilusional Hunkulese. This team is 100% a bubble team and sorry to say but there is a very real chance they miss. |

Every team in the division is a bubble team. All the Flames need is for Gaudreau to start being Gaudreau again and they probably win the division.
He's been marginally better the last four games and they're 3-0-1. |

There are rumours in Calgary that Johnny is doing something off ice that is hurting his game, just a rumour but many sources per my Calgary source. Gaudreau has become a perimeter player and rarely gets his nose dirty, also very predictable when he enters the O zone. Yes I would do Voracek and Gost for him too and take our chances. IMO Voracek is going to be dead weight down the road. Gost is totally overated and only us Flyers fans know that he is a train wreck most nights. |

I may wind up with egg on my face but I find the whole trade Gaudreau rumors crazy. Why does Calgary want to trade him? Due to 25 supar games? Ignore his previous play? The fact that Gaudreau grew up in S. Jersey does not give him ties to the Flyers in any way. - MJL
More egg, haha Gaudreau would love to play for the Flyers or Devs. When his contract expires and he becomes a ufa he will be heading to USA guaranteed, likely one of the mentioned teams. |

Ghost and a first wouldn't work cap wise.
Flyers would need to send another roster player to fit JG under the cap. - MBFlyerfan
If we could pull that offer off it would be amazing for Flyers. Just can not see the Flames being that dumb unless Johnny really has off ice issues. ?? |

Become? Have you ever seen Gaudreau play? All those statements are still true when he's playing his best hockey.

Do I really need to explain the difference between Calgary trading Gaudreau and the player deciding to leave and sign elsewhere as a UFA? I would think a guy like you with as much "GM experience" as you have would know the difference. |

JG won’t go anywhere in season. I don’t think he goes anywhere at all. Simply because they’d be trading low on him and won’t get anything close to top value right now. I think this year is potentially a rebuild/ retool year for them. They will have loads of cap space next offseason and can improve their roster. Next year will be brighter. |

I'm just not sure how the Flyers will be able to trade the Ghost to Calgary for l'il John when they have already traded hi m to the Jets in the deal for Buff! |

Konecny, a top prospect and an unprotected first would get it done.
The Flames would eat the difference between JG and Konecny's salary for this year to make the cap work. - DEDDIE
Although I'd hate to see Johnny traded, this is a trade I could live with.
Konecny and Horvat are cousins, those games would be more meaniful than they are already.
Also would do Johnny for Brady Tkachuk. |

As ridiculous as the Ghost offer one is for Calgary, this one is too much for Philly. Before this season I wouldn’t have said that, but it’s clear that TK is becoming invaluable to the team.
Either we have to trim back a little on the extras, or sub Lindblom’s name for TK. Lindblom, an unprotected 1st, and Zamula? Maybe Brink instead of Zamula? Bobby Brink is a couple of years away, but has good top end offensive potential. Lindblom, Brink, and a 1st is a pretty hefty haul. The problem here would be making the salary work, I suppose. At the beginning of the season, the Flames would have laughed at this, but Lindblom is really coming into his own. Leads the team in goals, and plays hard every night.
Konecny has been the Flyers’ best overall forward this year. He’s learned to play hard on both ends of the ice, not just as a scorer. His vision is outstanding. I don’t think they’d want to let him go to get Johnny G as much as try to add him to his line. A Gaudreau-Frost/Couturier-Konecny line would be deadly. |

Hall should very easily be gone by Mid January. I’d be surprised if he’s not. I absolutely think Colorado will lead the way.
They have the assets and cap space to extend him. I think he’d definitely sign an extension to stay with the Avs. I don’t think any of the other contenders can extend him. St Louis and Nashville would have to move out salary to keep him and so would not yield the greatest return. SJ no longer has the assets to make a bold move.
Edmonton has the assets to get him but I don’t think Holland does it. |

I’d like to know what the Hab- nots are going to do to dramatically alter their fate this year. It’ll be a crying ass shame if Julien gets the axe because of this poopty roster. |

Flyers fans have been arguing the opposite for years, when the majority of fans of other teams tell them he can't play defense, has 80% OZstarts, etc.
But now - "only us Flyers fans know this".... LOLWUT? |

From the Flames perspective:
Ghost at $4.5/year makes zero sense for us as he would play on our bottom pair next year behind Gio, Anderson, Valimaki and Hanifan (Assumes Brodie & Hamonic dont return next year).
The Flyers 2020 1st rounder looks to be in the bottom 10 picks so not super
valuable.
JG has 408 PTS in 423 NHL games (.96/game) Konecny 149 PTS in 260 NHL games (.57/game).
Both JG and TK have club friendly contracts.
Get my point ........

Well hopefully Treliving insists on Konecny. Wouldnt want to see the Flames give up their leading scorer without getting a player back that has the potential to fill the void. |

Forget the players and cap for a second...where would Gaudreau even play on the Flyers?
Giroux-Frost-Konecny
Lindblom-Couturier-Voracek
Laughton-Hayes-Farabee
JvR-Raffl-Pitlick
1) Not replacing Giroux and personally find it stupid to move G back to center
2) Not replacing Lindblom, unless he is part of the trade. Losing a lot of defensive responsibility and overall game for more offensive pop. Lindblom is going to be a RFA, but leads the team in goals.
3) Seems silly to have Gaudreau on the 3rd with Hayes, which would be interesting, but very unlikely.
As for players:
Ghost makes sense. Change of scenery and Calgary most likely losing 2-3 defensemen to UFA (unless they can talk them into resigning for cheaper.
2020 1st round pick
Again makes sense, Flyers are stocked with youth and many more to come. Big chip for a trade in a deep draft.
Prospect?
Frost...Nope.
Farabee...doubtful.
Brink...possible.
O'Brien...possible.
Rubtsov...possible.
Vorobyev...would be a good pickup to give him a legit shot.
Roster player?
Patrick...injured and extremely doubtful.
Konecny...not as a throw in, Calgary would have to balance out the trade. Extremely doubtful.
Lindblom...possible.
Laughton...possible and would balance out salary cap.
No...Giroux, Couturier, Voracek (too much), Hayes (NMC), JvR (too much), Provorov, Sanheim, Myers, Niskanen. - Glak18
You can argue about whether or not it’s plausible to pay the price to acquire him but you can’t argue that Gaudreau isn’t on the top line lol. Chemistry and “earned spots” be damned. He’d immediately become the best offensive player on the team. |
