Funny that the people who really like him also don't want to pay him close to what he'll be asking. Anyone suggesting 6m'ish has concerns about him as well. I've never heard anyone suggest a Skinner-like deal. - Lunaion
Ion had him at 7.5 +
When he's playing well, all the old farts comment on how great he is.
24 is pretty much prime of your career
I'm in at 5.5 maybe 6

AFC north at home
2nd place Bill's
2nd place Pittsburgh or Cleveland at buffalo
Most likely the steelers
AFC south on the road
Bill's at Tennessee
Bill's at colts
Most likely at titans.
3ER suggesting the Bill's win the division? - Boss34
Wouldn’t be the first time the goal post got ripped down after a Jets game. Fasten your seatbelts Bills fans.

If you're paying a player above $7 million, he had better be spectacular at something. - buffalofan19
Meh... $7mil is the new $5mil
Skinner is a 60point player that got $9mil per
Let’s call him a 35ish goal scorer
Sam is a 60point player who’s a 25ish scorer
So while he doesn’t deserve the 9mil Skinner got,
he is gonna get paid |

Yeah, i guess

Sam is the new Pominville.
I liked Pominville.
I like Sam overall as a hockey player.
I’d like Sam a lot more if we didn’t draft him 2nd overall over Leon Draisatil (and Wetbandit check the archives cause I wanted Leon all along before you give me this hind sight crap again).
Idk to me top 6 wingers are easier to find then top 6 centers. I can see Sam getting 5x7.25 and continuing to produce his 60 points.
If the right deal comes along though for a 2C or even top 4 d-man I think Botts has to at least listen if it’s a player of similar age. |

You have skinner as a guy that scores 10 more goals a year than sam?

Agree
But the goalposts are moving on what’s considered “elite” salary vs “good” salary
Elite players are all getting 10+ now
So 7-8 kinda seems right for “good” players
Of course I’d want Sam for less...
But the way the league is going,
top6 players are gonna continue to get overpaid
Kane got a mil more than he was worth
So did Skinner
Sam probably will too
And they won’t be the only ones |

I share your concerns. 4yr @6m would be a pretty conservative move. 8x8 and I'm scared, and you'd have to imagine his starting point is closer to 8.5. I see a bitter hold out, or the bold move of going to arb. He has a fair amount of leverage, since he could just file twice and hit UFA. |

Mark my words
Sam doesnt kill penalties, play physical or isnt a ufa.

I was just throwing it out there... Probably couldn’t be straight up. And while it puts a really really solid top line wing with Eichel... it doesn’t really add to the team. It’s like a really expensive half step. Lol.
I like Sam. I’d like to keep him and add to the team. The hall talk while interesting is just gonna be too expensive to get and sign.
And I still want a center over a wing. While keeping mits on the wing, preferably in the top 6. |

All that’s fair
But it sure doesn’t seem like a 24year old that’s a “legit” 2C is getting moved these days
Names that get brought up as “2Cs” around here are really average (at best) 3Cs
Turris, Bjugstad, Roslovic, etc etc etc
Hell to the no
Brayden Point... in a heartbeat
But it just doesn’t seem like a team is gonna move that type of guy
That’s why i keep saying our 2C will be Mitts or Cozens |

Skinner has 1 season with 40
He’s on pace for 30 this season
He averages 30goals per 82games for his career
31per over the past 2+ seasons
Sam is on pace for 27 this year
He averages 22per for his career
25goals per over the last 2+ seasons
So really...
unless Skinner is back with Jack,
then I’m being generous saying there’s a 10goal per season difference between the 2 of them

And here in lies the problem. Mitts was thrust into the roll last year. Has not progressed to the point that all I want is him on the wing. So, we are going to take a young cozens, coming from Jr’s to force him into that roll. Mean while a wing that hasn’t played center in 5 years is filling in admirable but how much better would the team be with a real center. It’s maddening. Go get a center. Yeah, maybe in 2-3 years mitts or cozens could play the position. But relaying on a Jr player or 3rd year guy that’s been forced to the wing is just another “maybe next year”. While over whelming your high end prospects.

He’s a scorer though

This is probably one of the best and realistic trades in a while.
Sam and Samuelson for mantha.

None of that matters at this point
Sam has become who he is
A 25ish goal scorer who will get 60ish points
The market will determine that he’s gonna get overpaid by around 1mil
That’s they way it is now with good (not elite) top6 forwards |

Good post.
2020 lineup:
Olofsson-Eichel-Cozens
Mitts-_____-Reinhart
Skinner-Asplund-Mojo
Thompson-Larsson-Okposo
Find a veteran Center that can go into that 2nd line role and go from there.

Exactly what I was thinking. Mantha has a lot of grit too. Maybe Fitz is right. He seems like a player that would be hard to pry away from Detroit. Detroit sucks now though.

But herein lies the problem with what you’re saying... “go get a Center”
Guys like Turris & Bjugstad & Roslovic are NOT 2Cs either
And they’re likely not any better than MoJo
So sure...
if a young, legit 2C becomes available... GREAT
But I’m not gonna hold my breath
Bc who in their right mind I’d gonna trade that guy?
So i guess I’m thrilled taking MoJo as a placeholder on a decent contract than if we did something dumb like pay Kevin Hayes long term
Unless something crazy happens...
we are developing our 2C from within
