But herein lies the problem with what you’re saying... “go get a Center”
Guys like Turris & Bjugstad & Roslovic are NOT 2Cs either
And they’re likely not any better than MoJo
So sure...
if a young, legit 2C becomes available... GREAT
But I’m not gonna hold my breath
Bc who in their right mind I’d gonna trade that guy?
So i guess I’m thrilled taking MoJo as a placeholder on a decent contract than if we did something dumb like pay Kevin Hayes long term
Unless something crazy happens...
we are developing our 2C from within - jdfitz77
Cozens is a by-product of losing though, and you were strongly against that.

Exactly what I was thinking. Mantha has a lot of grit too. Maybe Fitz is right. He seems like a player that would be hard to pry away from Detroit. Detroit sucks now though. - Hatboro_Swords
I don’t know that by any means
Just pretty sure i heard that’s what Bob was saying a few weeks ago when Athanasiou rumors were being addressed |

1) what’s that matter to the point we were talking about?
2) what i was against, was CHEERING FOR YOUR TEAM TO LOSE
*and no...
what we did for Jack is NOT the same as what happened for Cozens
-Jack was seen as a generational talent
-not much difference between pick6 & pick16 in last year’s draft
So u can quit bringing it up
Along with Skinner
And the Broncos
And your ridiculous theory of what nfl games matter & which ones don’t
Enough already |

Trade Reinhart plus for a top 6 contract with 3,4 left in the 5-6.5 range. top winger for Eichel. 2 C will be Cozens soon enough and Mitts can be also moved to wing then - lulags
So Reinhart for Zucker and Eriksson Ek/Kunin...? |

None of that matters at this point
Sam has become who he is
A 25ish goal scorer who will get 60ish points
The market will determine that he’s gonna get overpaid by around 1mil
That’s they way it is now with good (not elite) top6 forwards - jdfitz77
It doesn't matter to you, it matters to me .

Stevie y built Tampa pretty soft but skilled.
Maybe he would trade grit for skill |

I get pissed when I hear the same (frank)ing thing every day, Cookies.
You hate Sam, but love Pominville, that makes absolutely no sense, Pominville was softer than baby poop and REALLY couldn't produce on his own. Reinhart has one less point away from Jack than Little Lord Fauntleon does away from Jesus. Who's the coattail rider again? |

It’s arbitrary and beyond pointless to dwell over
We don’t win or lose games based on where guys were drafted
We do so based on how they produce |

That's my whole premise.
Posters thinking sam is a 8 x8 guy.
Sure, pay sam good $ for good play
Not even close to being a star or consistent game changer.
Watch him dump the puck in, then get outhustled and out battled 9/10 times behind the net - Boss34

Sam is the new Pominville.
I liked Pominville.
I like Sam overall as a hockey player.
I’d like Sam a lot more if we didn’t draft him 2nd overall over Leon Draisatil (and Wetbandit check the archives cause I wanted Leon all along before you give me this hind sight crap again).
Idk to me top 6 wingers are easier to find then top 6 centers. I can see Sam getting 5x7.25 and continuing to produce his 60 points.
If the right deal comes along though for a 2C or even top 4 d-man I think Botts has to at least listen if it’s a player of similar age. - Pegullaville
Great, a 14 year old kid wanted him. Awesome. |

He is a good player, but I get his point to an extent. I think Reinhart ends up getting more than he's worth either here or elsewhere. He's the exact type of player that bad teams overpay for in Free Agency. If the Sabres were to sell high on him, I don't see myself losing sleep. That doesn't mean that I want him traded tomorrow or just given away, but you can, I think, make up his production with a savvy enough trade.
The other side of this is that I am not sure Botterill has the vision or even the testicular fortitude to make a trade like that. - buffalofan19
I agree.
I'm hardly saying he's indispensable, but the constant comparisons to a guy who no scouting service had ranked ahead of him are wearing incredibly thin, and whenever he doesn't have a great game the knives come out, like the completely idiotic "He's getting completely outplayed by a rookie picked 179 picks later in the same draft." like players must have great games every game. It's asinine. That even goes for Eichel, he has 2 bad games in a row and people say how he's never taken over a game, how he's "underachieving", "soft", "immature", "spoiled", and on and on. |

2 pieces are Mitts and a 1st round pick in the draft, Sabres like Hall, Coleman and Wood. - SABRES 89
Highly highly doubt the Devils have any interest building a package around a center who hasnt lived up to his draft position yet we have that in Zacha except he can play on the pk and be relied upon defensively. Also why would they build their package around a player who has 0 shot of surpassing Nico or Hughes in the top 6. |

Well if you have been here before and read what I posted, it wasn't just Mitts and a pick there was more. |

Ion had him at 7.5 +
When he's playing well, all the old farts comment on how great he is.
24 is pretty much prime of your career
I'm in at 5.5 maybe 6 - Boss34
Wrong.
Ion had him at over $7.0m..if he stays close to 65sh points.
Boss said no way even close to $7.0, Sabres won't pay it.
They may not pay if they trade him away..for something like Hall
$5.5m...hehehehe. |
|

Sam had 1 shot tonight
Just got back from the game. Completely irrelevant, again.
You jokers want to give him 7.5 million long term. - Boss34
Patranak makes 6,666,666. There is no way that Reinhart should make 7.5. |

Good player = good $
Not elite $ - Boss34
Define Elite.
Is that the same as having 16 of 32 QB's in the NFL rated as Elite?
Are there 350 Elite players in the NHL? |

And here in lies the problem. Mitts was thrust into the roll last year. Has not progressed to the point that all I want is him on the wing. So, we are going to take a young cozens, coming from Jr’s to force him into that roll. Mean while a wing that hasn’t played center in 5 years is filling in admirable but how much better would the team be with a real center. It’s maddening. Go get a center. Yeah, maybe in 2-3 years mitts or cozens could play the position. But relaying on a Jr player or 3rd year guy that’s been forced to the wing is just another “maybe next year”. While over whelming your high end prospects. - Gr8daygo
Best post from last night.
He probably would not do it, but sign Koivu for 2 years in FA. |

Not me. Perfect time to trade him and avoid said 72m which handcuffs us. We need to be cognizant of Dahlin, Cozens, Mitts, Olofsson deals in next few years.
Trade Sam plus Risto or McCabe for a top 6 with about 3-5 years on contract. Buys us time to pay the above and see where we stand. |

Since they are clinging to hope that one of Mitts or Cozens fills the 2C role, why does it have to be a young player to hold the 2C position for say 2 years?
Go get a vet with w -3 years left who plays the game the right way. |

Wrong way to think about it IMO.
The lower pick simply afforded Buffalo to make the selection they wanted ...not having to wait for leftovers...which at say 11 or 12 could have been a RhD as the best player available then. |
