So when is Benning going to ship out some surplus forwards, goalies for more top 6 scoring an upgraded RD. Tanev won't be back next year. Stecher is solid but no star. Expansion draft is next summer so Van can only protect 1 goalie. Jackets need an experienced #1 goalie and more scoring now or it's looking bad for their GM/COACH future. They are below average with Werenski who is now injured for at least 4 weeks.

So Markstrom, Stecher, Virtanen and Goldobin for Seth Jones. Jones is 25, has a manageable cap hit for 3 years and has Norris trophy skill. It immediately upgrades Vancouvers D, especially with Edler hurt again.

Gaudette with Sutter and a prospect for unhappy Buffalo RD Ristolainen. Flip Risto to W

ings for 25 year old power fwd Anthony Mantha. Mantha is a pending RFA so he is hungry and should be thrilled to escape rebuilding Wings.

I doubt any opt out clause will ever be a part of CBA, the league wanted the cap, too bad for the teams.
The real problem is that the owners still let the GM's sign stupid long contracts to players that had 1 maybe 2 decent seasons, that is on the league(owners), not the players.
If anything, I could see the percentage of cap hit going down, for a player, which allows a team to pay a decent amount to the middle roster type players.
I could see a s scenario where star players start negotiating the % clause into their contracts.
Ie, if player receives 9% of current cap hit in year 1 of contract, they would still receive that same % throughout their co tract, basically making their salary a floating cap hit.
