All this shows me why he would earn every penny of a $7M contract.

How many of those players that you mentioned in the bottom half of the post would you say would be obtainable for Skinner for a 1 for 1 ? Possibky Reinhart whom I’d even have to give the edge due to age.

I think Jeff’s even strength production is quite impressive. I understand it’s harder to produce at 5v5 then when you are on the PP, however all goals count the same. When you have two forwards making as much money as Boston’s top trio your PP should never go through a 2/39 stretch.

8 year contracts should only be given to franchise cornerstones like Jack Eichel and Rasmus Dahlin (eventually when he fulfills his potential)

I do not think for one second it was a coincidence that Botts took until June to resign him. He was stuck between a rock and a hard place and gave in. Just because his predecessors couldn’t draft worth a poop doesn’t mean throwing 8 years at a “good” hockey player is a good idea. Two wrongs don’t make a right.

Even playing most of the season with Eichel he couldn’t break 70 points. I know total points don’t matter to you but Jesus if secondary assists and PP assists were so easy to obtain how do you not luck into 30-35 with all of those on ice minutes with Jack and Sam.

Spezza has more P/60 then Matthews. Should we trade the house for him ?

On the score sheet. Not when evaluating value to a team.

Can you honestly, with a straight face, tell me that what Larsson did (3 assists, 2 secondary) were more valuable than scoring a 5 on 5 goal, then driving to the net and setting up Sheary for his goal? It's not even close.

I'm sorry, but racking up secondary points, especially on the PP is not a "skill". It's just a product of being on the ice.

Continually providing primary points, goals especially, year after year is a product of skill.

So if he had 10 more secondary assists, you would stop talking about Jeff Skinner?
- jcragcrumple

Well, I mean obviously Skins needs to start double banking his shots off Larsson and Sheary. A $9m player should be able to do that. He needs to be more of a team player and help his boys out.

IIRC, 1 of Larry's 2 goals this year was actually Skinner firing it off his ass with the goalie pulled to tie it up.

Start firing it at Larry, Skinner! Rack up them assists

It's just funny -

We talk all the time about how if player X was on team B instead of team A, or line B instead of line C, they'd have more/less "points".

So how valuable of a statistic is just general point totals if different teams/situation makes the total fluctuate?

Meanwhile, Skinner, no matter the team, or linemate, just flat out scores primary points, and we diminish it?

I agree, but the argument was no one had us drafting him in the mock drafts.

That doesn't matter.

sam reinhart has 120 points in his last 150 games

I would like to know how that is an issue with this team

Do you really want an answer to this? You're going to get one, and it's going to be long, boring and completely irrelevant to the sabres current situation

Why is it a loss, we have just as much chance to win that game as the ravens....if we don’t turn the ball over... it should be a great game. Jackson is not going to beat the bills throwing... stop the run win the game
- gordong

I agree with you about Jackson and the run. Force him to throw it.

We will see. The verdict is still out on this bills team.

We still lost To the browns and eagles (Miami just beat).

If we get the josh Allen from the last 3 weeks. We definitely can win

For anyone scoring at home, Dea and Lazar were sent down without going through waivers. That means they were emergency recalls, and it just wasn't reported that way. It's stupid that they don't give us that detail. It also means that we could theoretically call up Cozens, should need arise.
- Lunaion

to clarify, both dea (Sept. 23) and lazar (Sept. 30) were waived at training camp and cleared...no need for them to clear waivers again

The elite players in the NHL will do it consistently. I’d argue many of Eichel’s secondary assists this year were a result of a skill play

Like consistently score a large number of EV goals comparable to Mattews, McDavid and Patrick Kane?

Sure, he can do the most important thing, but can he rack up secondary assists at an elite level? Checkmate.

Why? Because money? Im glad they dont have him there. He is producing enough and is one of the few that can succeed without eichel. All year there have been cries to have him up there even though he is the reason we have any scoring depth behind eichels line.

Doesnt make sense

My buddy from the New England has mentioned that before. A guy named zolic or something like that. He is an ex patriots player and drops some juicy patriots rumors stuff. Anyways. That guy mentioned that a few weeks ago. Around the AB apology to kraft

Patrick Kane and Connor McDavid will also put up 100+ points. Being an elite playmaker is also a skill.

How many “team” games were lost due to special teams the last few weeks ?

Eichel’s shooting percentage was 4.8% through the first 25 games last year. Perhaps Skinner should of shot it at him too, or maybe try to make a slot shot attempt with a nice pass.

Skinner has spent more time with Eichel then any other Center, spent more time with Mojo then Larsson.

People complain about Larsson but he’s actually a very good analytical fit with Skinner. He excels at not giving up chances against and plays well defensively, Skinner does not. Skinner generates offence individually and is very good at generating offensive chances. Put a real winger on the right side and things would be interesting.

And if they were pending UFA’s at 27 years old this year they’d get 14-15 mil per as opposed to 9.
