Paul - if the refs are not going to control the game, then it is up to the players to make sure they are removed from the ice. How they missed the boarding (and the kneeing) is beyond me.

Yep, that's how you do that without hurting your team. If Gilbert did that with Q in charge, he'd be in Rockford by midnight.

Four penalties in about 18 minutes - hard to win with that.

Fortunately, two were short - so they could get back into their high-powered offense quicker.

There are other ways and times to respond, one goal game. Heck, they play them again in a few days. You respond when game is in hand for either team, not in a close game, you have to be smart. I do understand Gilbert’s logic though, he’s trying to stick in the show, but rookie mistake.
