Really Zajac, with one year left? You wouldnt want to start grooming Nico to be a leader? |

But you never get equal value for a player on an expiring contract. Look at what we gave up for Kovy. A late 1st, a mid pairing D and a C prospect. That's probably what a return for Hall looks like. - smellmyfinger
I think you are underselling the Kovy return a bit.
Oduya- good 2nd pairing shutdown defender
Bergfors- Former first rounder who finished the season with 20+ goals and 40+ points
Cormier- Former 2nd round pick who captained Canada at the WJC
1st round pick
Yeah, Cormier and Bergfors ended up being busts but there was no way of knowing that at the time. To be honest if we got a similar deal for Hall and got to re-roll the outcome of the prospects I wouldn't be disappointed at all. Would rather go for 1 blue chip prospect, but we desperately need a dman like Oduya.
Edit: Going back through that trade is kind of crazy. Begfors was actually doing well until he got traded to a team coached by... Pete DeBoer. The u20 Canada team Cormeir captained featured Taylor Hall, Jordan Eberle and Adam Henrique. They lost to a USA team with Kyle Palmieri and David Warsofsky. |

I think Zajac would be an ideal C after Greene. It would only be for one season, allowing Nico to continue his growth, and he could potentially hit his 1000th game. They guy has done nothing but play good hockey his entire career. He has earned it. |

Do not trade Wood to an area rival. No NY team or A division rival..
He has value ....
need size to go with our skill.... and a big D man would help also.... - thechezman
100% agree. Wood can hit, no sense making our small squad a bunch of sitting ducks. And a physical D would be great. I thought Subban would hit, but he doesn't do much of anything. We missed the boat on Sbisa when he was waived. The guy is looking better ever game with the jets. Grit/Size/very fast. He is a UFA this offseason tho, and would likely be attained for around 1.5M, so keep him in mind. |

Dude, we raped them. You totally forgot we got Anssi Salmela with Kovy.
Also we swapped 2nd rounders which landed us Jon Merrill and they got Justin Holl who's with Toronto. The Holl pick was made by the BlackHawks who acquired the pick in the a large trade that landed Atlanta Dustin Byfuglien.
Only slightly related: The Jets (who lost Byfuglein, Trouba and Meyers on D) have given up 21 few goal and played two more games then New Jersey. You look at their defensive roster compared to our and you have to wonder what's going on. Not that Hellebuyck isn't a heck of goalie.... |

In hindsight obviously Devils won the trade. He's saying at the time it looked like a hefty return for Kovy and Atlanta was getting good pieces. No one could've predicted they would all be busts except Oduya. |

Yeah, I know. I was just (frank)ing around.
Anssi ended up being a bust also but I had high hopes. |

What I was saying about the Kovy return was more in response to proposals im seeing along the lines of Byram and a 1st.
I remember Bergfors being a decent prospect, but nowhere near Byram level, and if memory serves me right I think Cormier was already thought of as a fading prospect with discipline problems. I’m not trying to say we handed Atlanta a bag full of garbage, but I do think people have to temper their expectations on what we will get for Hall. I wouldn’t be surprised if it’s something like a late first, a mid pair defender and a second tier prospect. I just don’t see someone handing us a blue chip prospect plus a first. If we get that id be thrilled obviously. I just don’t see it though. |

Never heard of Renaud L., do you have a link ?
I also dont believe the Shero thing. Shero went and got PK, Wayne to convince Hall, just to say we wont give you the deal you want? nah |

No doubt neither Bergfors or Cormier were at Byram's level, but I wouldn't say either were C level prospects. And Cormier had just come off the u20 tournament when we made the trade. When he came back from the tourney, he basically tried to kill a guy on the ice, got suspended for the rest of the season, then got hurt the next training camp in Atlanta. I think that's when his stock really started to plummet but scouts loved his game at the time and thought he'd make a great 3rd line center. |

Honest truth, I didn't feel like we gave up a lot for Kovy. I embraced the "Oh-no-duya" view of Oduya. .tho he finally did seem to play his best at the time of the trade. Guy made so many defensive zone mistakes though. I felt Bergfors was a nice piece, but unproven and lacking some tenacity and such.. in exchange for a proven lethal weapon. Cormier captain team Canada, but he wasn't a point producer.. more of a 2-way gritty center, plus he lacked speed. And the picks.. we only got downgraded like 8 spots in the draft or something? I thought it was a very nice win for NJ. |

absolutely. would almost be a dream. I know Hall is Hall, but this guy is *suppossssed* to be a top pair D prospect. Unproven though, obviously. . and that's where maybe the pick is necessary. |

It’s just an A, you don’t need one to figure out how to lead. Zajac deserves it too, even though it doesn’t mean much. |

Also Hughes on the 4th line with Simmonds and Wood tonight. Probably trying to protect him while he heals, but man that line is not gonna produce |

I don't really care. The other lines were good enough in the last game. Hischer, Zajac, Zacha down the middle is fine. It opens up a spot for Boqvist on the wing with Zacha in the middle. And Hughes on the 4th line kicks Rooney out. Simmonds isn't terrible, it's just Wood who will stunt everything. |

I think it's pretty trust worthy. It makes sense that both sides would want to wait and see what the team was going to be before committing, we always thought Hall was the one holding up re-signing but it turns out Shero was waiting. And I think it's a really good move seeing how bad the team is right now. We're going to recoup assets and then have 4-5 really high end young players who will all enter their prime around the same time. |
