Have the Leafs ever gone a season without a fighting major? Whats the lowest fighting total in franchise history for a season? |

Matthews makes 800K less than McDavid
McDavid has (all won on his ELC):
2 x art ross
1 x Hart
2 x Ted Lindsay
Matthews has:
PACE!!!!!!!!!! - haywoodjablome
Mcdavid actually is an example of a player who took less money.

That’s going to change as Clarkson will be back in the New Year.

I love Matthews but man is he ever overrated. He is so undeserving of the contract he signed.

Matthews is overpaid for sure
Dubie has put the leafs in cap trouble, cant even afford a back up without shortening the roster.
We'll see how things work out.

leafs gave up Frattin, Scrivens, and a 2nd for Bernier - who was a back up in LA
leafs gave up a 1st and 2nd for Andersen - who was the back up in Anaheim
leafs gave up a 1st and 2nd for Toskola - who was the backup in San Jose
so as long as teams trade their backup goalies to the leafs, they can expect to get a solid return - haywoodjablome
He said a good haul. That isnt a good haul. None of those were equal to a top 6 player. I think you are proving my point, thank you. |

a 1st and 2nd rd pick isn't a "good haul" for a backup goalie??????
that's only one less pick than the leafs gave up for Phil "60 goal scorer" Kessel |

I would have been ok with his contract had it been a longer termm but Dubas certainly is an awful negotiator. |

I thinks its fine for a "Backup" thats a starter

So, which one of the big 4 do we need to jettison to build this team properly?
I would actually get rid of Tavares just because of his age, but clearly we cant do this because he is the anointed captain now... and had leafs PJ’s...
SO it comes down to the fabulous 3, Matthews, Marner and Nylander. You have to keep Matthews because he is a big centre imo...
Marner or Free Willie?
Willie is soft, but jettisoning Marner would get you a bigger return and free up lots of cap...?

that was kind of my point.....Georgiev (no idea how to spell his name) is a "backup" technically, but he's young and will almost surely be a good starter in this league soon........hell, if Lundqvist wasn't such a legend in New York, Georgiev is possibly the starter right now.
if you're acquiring an actual backup.....absolutely the price will be low
if you're acquiring a "backup" who is well on his way to becoming a starter, it will cost a team a solid package to acquire that player |

I posted for the last while that georgiev would be my top target.
Looks like a reliable backup with Starter potential. There has to be a contingency plan for replacing Freddie if there is not enough space for him come contract time.
Leafs have a couple prospects but goalies are such an unknown, you cant just rely on one magically becoming a starter ready for 2021 |

To be clear, Anderson wasnt a backup, he platooned with Gibson, even played in the playoffs so yeah, your facts are off there. Also, who would give up a top 6 player on a roster for a backup goaltender? Give your head a shake.
The Leafs got a 1st, 3rd, Prospect(Kap) who was a 1st rounder, Spaling, Harrington. Thats not as close as you make it out to be. |

If you think this team is disappointing this year, wait until next year. We will be without Barrie and likely Muzzin will walk in UFA. Ceci I assume will be gone. That is a sad d-core... Sandin better be ready! Lol |

none of the 4
The targets imo to get cap space are Ceci (obv) and Kap or Jonsson
there is 7.5 mil to make something happen with.
Kap is frustrating for me to watch, if he wasnt so good on the PK he would be the obvious choice for me.
With Engvall and Moore you can give up a little offence for something else

The Kessel trade was good for us. I don’t know if anyone was expected Kap to have the career he has. He is a GUD pro. |

The problem is you have to replace Ceci. Barrie will be gone, and Muzzin will likely be gone or you have to pay him MORE money... Who will play d? |
