As a goalie, I say good on Joe. This BS of protecting the goalie is stupid. I go out of my "protected" area, I should be fair game. I'm playing the puck and get hit, I take his number and next time there happens to be a scrum around my crease I get a few shots in, damn I have even taken my gloves and mask off to fight. And Joe, challenge him to a fight, instead of punching in the mask with a glove on.

And the Goalie shouldn't be using their stick as a weapon either so this is more of can 2 wrongs make a right. Joe coming in to jab the puck was still a hockey play, everything after that was not.

Are you kidding me? One of Mrazeks’ teammates should have dropped the gloves and thrown a left hook. That’s the way game used to be. You didn’t wait for the referee to intervene. The game is waaaay to soft. It’s like the Ice Capades. Gone are the days when the players policed themselves, and you had to pay for your transgressions. The whole world is full of whiners and babies.

By your logic the goalie should get a minimum of 10 games for intent to injure.

I’m with Thornton on this. Goalie sticks hurt. That was an aggressive back hand attempt at his knees. I had a goalie smack my cage with a goalie stick and honestly had no damage done at all and lost my cool. It was the act and intention that set off Thornton. I’m okay with his response.
I would also like to add that Marty B used to swing his stick all the time and go for blocker jabs. Fortunately for him by the time anyone got a chance to retaliate he would have to deal with Scott Stevens. Once Marty lost those blue line giants he started taking dives as well after getting the jab in and receiving retaliation. Petr flying reminded me of Avery looking like super man and pushing Marty into a back flip.
